Farm chatter

Lol, well I’ve been studying pedigrees since I was 9 and can recite stuff back a few decades. And I can talk people’s ears off about pedigrees, genetics, canine evolution, dog behavior, etc until they beg me to stop lol (not really I’m pretty good at knowing when to change the subject when I see people’s eyes glaze šŸ˜†)

) Depends on if they are intact or not. Intact coats are very easy, until a female blows her coat before going into heat and than you have fur everywhere. Spay/neuter coats are thick and wooly, and require grooming up to every day depending on how bad it gets.
I did not know that!
I should add to my comments then that freya is an intact female, ludo and cadeyrn are intact males, and benjen is neutered. shes awesome at cleaning up after herself in heat btw.

I assume this was a joke but since I know some people probably think that seriously -- there's a reason I didnt make breed generalizations and just told of my experience with specific dogs šŸ˜‰

our tervs are grey so I've looked into the genetics there.

Haha ok!
Unfortunately dogs are one animal that doesn't really interest me. I don't know why.
I'm more of a poultry fan

benjen is neutered but short haired (my pfp) so he pretty much never gets brushed
I didnt realize females blow coat before they go into heat. my metric for freya going into heat is - literally - when she starts humping the cat
Oh dear, that poor cat!šŸ˜† Yeah I’ve had two intact girls and you can just pull chunks of fur out of them before they go in. And how bad the neuter coat is depends on the individual and I think how old they are when they’re fixed. One of my girls was spayed at 5, pretty easy coat. My current girl was spayed at 2 and has an awful coat, way too soft and mats easy. šŸ˜‘

well that's good news because we may be spaying freya but shes plenty old enough if your theory holds.

someone asked once why freya humps that particular cat -- we assume hes the only one that will tolerate it hahaha

since my dog is neutered, and can therefore be left around freya when shes in heat risk-free, i have a great gauge of when she is actually gunna try to breed vs when shes just acting funny, so I know when to keep her away from the intact boys. whereas if you try to separate them the whole time shes acting funny, it's just annoying
