I want to add geese to our collection of farm animals. Hopefully they would add another layer of grazing/brousing animals to our pasture management along with 2 beef, sheep, goats and chickens in tractors.
I have a choice between 2 sets of goslings, some just hatched and some a couple of weeks old. Since I am not looking for them imprinting on me,at least I think imprinting with me is not important, would the older ones be a better choice? I hope to rotate them in an orchard setting behind fence for safety and do not want them in the gardens or yard around the house (we like to walk barefoot in the summer).
With other farm species I have found that even the "wilder ones" settled down when they realize I am the carrier of treats, mover of fencing to greener grazing, and waterer so they become manageable in our setting.
Thans for your advice.

I think you will be fine either way. If you aren't looking for pets, I would get the older ones. Less hassle!

And yes, as bringer of treats, you will be loved...LOL

I got a runner when she was almost a year old. She is very skittish and wont get closer than 2 feet to me, but she respects my treat providing ability and is a very sweet duck

That would probably be toulouse geese. Nice geese who tend to be more on the docile side usually. Good solid farm geese. Either age will work but I agree go with the older ones, less work and they have a jump on being able to take care of themselves in the fields. Little little ones need to be watched more so hawks and daytime predators won't grab them.
