Three Acres - so sorry about bunny mama - does anyone have a doggy momma or cat momma that would at least cuddle and acccept them??
They don't need cuddles. Rabbits don't lay with their babies like dogs and cats. They only feed them 5 minutes, twice a day max.

Probably the easiest animal to nurse for the human. They aren't easy to keep alive, but you don't have to feed them every couple of hours like puppies or kittens (or goats).

Thanks everybody!

I am not seeing a link Toast n Jelly???

I started feeding them kitten milk replacer. Now I'm feeding them a mixture of the KMR, heavy whipping cream and esbilac. They like this mixture WAY better than plain KMR, but not sure what is right??? I wish I had goats milk to try.

It'll be a huge learning experience.

I keep them in here, nice and toasty in the living room! I find it interesting how they seem to open and close that hole of fur at the top according to how warm they are. After a feeding, they close it for a while, then as time goes and their heat builds back up, it starts opening. They've done it after every feeding, but I'm not sure if it is on purpose...makes sense though.

Here's a few pics of them. I have a kitten bottle kit, but the syringe works better right now. I am trying to get them to nurse the bottle every feeding though. I also wrap them in a wash cloth now, with just their head sticking out when I feed them. I took pics of that last night, but there was no sd card in....lol.

I put them all in the basket, then back in the nest after feeding so I know who has been fed...all in front of a heater, but they stay real warm all together.

I want updates day by day!

How did their mother pass? Did she have a kit stuck?

Thanks for all the info and pictures, I don't have rabbits but, like to learn all I can about animals - just in case. Used to tube feed puppies every 3 hours for the first 10 days, etc.

Come to think of it I have seen rabbit a mama in our yard and would only nurse twice a day. She would hip hop all over the yard to throw preds off the trail then leap over to the nest. They nursed for a very short time and then mama would make a big leap way from the nest so she wouldn't leave her scent close to the babies. Really interesting what instincts they have.

I'm not sure what happened. She was suppose to have them Sunday. She didn't, so I started watching her around the clock. Her first litter was just one big still born, so I was already concerned on this litter. No babies Monday. No babies real early Tuesday. Then around 8 am I turned the corner of the barn and seen her dead. My heart sank. There were 8 babies were in a little pile. I didn't see anything that could of been wrong. Part of me wanted to do an autopsy, but I didn't.

I just got done feeding them. 3 really did good this time! Feeding will or would go fast if they all ate like those 3 are starting to. I see where patience is mentioned a lot and can understand that!

I have only had 2 litters so far, so just a newb. I don't sleep much or sleep normally...lol. I'm out checking animals at all hours. I never once caught those 2 momma rabbits in the nest with their babies for a stretch of 5 weeks.....lol.
