I read awhile back that a thing a person could do is cut the sleeves off of an old sweater or the like and then cut leg holes out of it for baby goats....:D .  Momma and babies are in the warm basement right now....:D .

When I become rich, I'll buy a helicopter and came help ya at the drop of a hat when the call light comes on...lol.  Just jokin around... because I may not be the one to call...I still am writing the book...:D

You can buy little jackets for sheep. The first winter we had our angoras I bought some. Only problem is if they are horned goats , they tend to get caught their horns tangled up in them. We had 2 young ones ' bunting ' and one got its horns tangled in the others coat. By the time I found them they had almost garotted each other. I had to cut them free. In Tassie you see paddocks full of merino sheep in green jackets. More to keep the fleece dry than anything. They look to made from silage plastic. Lovin the pics in the snow!

Wow! Great job saving them!

How are your cows doing in the cold? Around here, they move cows to warmer regions in the winter, then back up to the mountains for summer grazing.
Thanks!

Cows are fine!...thanks for asking! We don't have great changes in elevation around here. I move mine to an area that is half timber, half open....most of my ground is hilly, so it's a hilly area too. I feed 2 or 3 times a day and feed in the best spot for that moment. Been feeding them in the trees the last couple days. I love winter chores...pretty satisfying stuff!

Here's a few pics from a calf being born at the end of Feb last year. I watched her head off to have it. By the time I went and got the sled, which didn't take long, she had had the baby and it had flipped under brush where momma couldn't get to it and it couldn't get up....and was already cold enough it had started to stiffen up pretty bad. I took them to the barn and went to work warming it. I was very happy to watch it suck for the first time! That calf is eating hay out there now behind a windbreak.

Oh boy , lucky those things have got leather coats.

3 ACRES are you REALLY writing a book (I hope, I hope) you are much more exciting than "All Creatures Great & Small" by James Herriot.

Whenever I see people from Canada on here I think of a stand-up comedy deal Jim Carrey said on being from Canada and how all we from the US think is that it is cold up there 24/7 365....lol. He said he finally would just in and would say stuff like ---There was much work to be done, if we were ever going to survive the elements. I would bore a hole in the ice...to find food....then me and my good friend, Nantook, and I, would build an igloo....to protect ourselves....------- ...something like that...lol.
I hear that a lot. Our summers are to die for. BLISS.. Seriously gorgeous and very nice temps (for the most part). We get some really hot days, and some that folks from the south would think chilly.. How is 70+ chilly?

Everything is always green and lush.. and full... I have to picture summer to get through our very long winter.. It usually ranges from November to May unfortunately. It starts to warm up in April with snow being gone that month too. Trees aren't in full bloom until June.

So really we only have June, July, August and September with leaves on the trees..

Since I grew up here in Florida, I am very sensitive to the cold, but I agree 70 is not chilly that is very nice weather. I think in Hawaii it stays around 72 just about year round.

I still like our very hot summers here. 90 deg or 100 is great. I love the sun. I am fine with sweating a lot, but I just don't like shivering a lot and not being able to feel my fingers and toes.

X2. Iove our hot South Carolina summers here. These past few cold, windy days have been a shock to pretty much everyone around here. It's supposed to be 8 degrees tonight here in the upstate, with a windchill of -10! Brr. Winds have been terrible, gusts at 30 mph. Blew over my big silkie pen, i had to move them into our shed. Schools have been cancelled/delayed, just due to cold. People around here just don't own winter gear, because it's usually nowhere near that cold. By Sunday, the temps are supposed to be more tolerable, with highs in the upper sixties. Now that's more of my type of weather!
