How do u tell your cows and your brothers and dads cows apart??

My dad's cows have black ear tags, my brother has blue ear tags, and I have green ear tags. All calves when born wear a red ear tag. We also keep records to know what number belongs to which cow. If we keep the calf we change the tag to the color the calf belongs to. If we sell the calf it will keep a red ear tag and go to auction and sell them.
Wow, what a difference a month makes !

I know! I love that about Granite. She gives birth to these small light calves with not a single problem and then she has such great milk quality and quantity she can get her calves caught up to the other calves in a small time frame. You can see in the picture of a calf that was born 5 months before he was and he's gaining on the calf. I love Granite and I hope her heifer calf Surprise will be just like her. Surprise is suppose to calf in December but cows don't read books and will calf when she wants.

Birdrain, what do you do with 98 train feathers? Is there a good market for them?
I first started out selling to neighbors or whoever would get my number and wanted feathers. Last year I had 175 for sale and I had 64 left. Then I called a local floral shop and they bought them all. They asked if I was going to have more soon and wanted me to bring them in. I told them chances are I'll have around 300 feathers since I have two males and the train feathers are bigger than my last year feathers so I'm hoping that also means more feathers. I will find out when both of my males are done molting. Hopefully that will be in early August since the one male has a little train left and my other male you can see what's left of his train except the few he has molted today. Now I have 102 from the male in the photo, 121 from my other male giving me a total of 223 peacock feathers and still collecting. There's a bit of a market here. It took a while but I finally found it. Now I just have to find my peachick market. Found a small one here on BYC but so far only 4 out of the 8 peachicks are going to be sold. A local hatchery said they would be willing to allow me to post an ad there since they get lots of people wanting peachicks.

Do you ever see "art & craft" shows at area shopping malls? Sometimes that is a great venue (feathers). Wish I could think of something for your chicks.

I've seen some arts and crafts around the mall and they use fake feathers a lot and I offer real feathers but they say they'll be fine without them. I also tried fly fishing stores but they never got back with me. I then tried a few craft stores and they didn't want them, home décor places didn't want them, wedding stores didn't want them, tried a few floral shops and they didn't want them until I asked one floral shop and they loved the feathers and want more. They are right now my market area for selling my feathers.
