For years I heard my Granny say we need a hard winter to kill some bugs.... I always thought she meant buggy type bugs as I got older I realized she did mean buggy bugs but also virusy type bugs. It has been a long time since we have had a really cold winter here in Tx. It's time!!!!
We have a 500 gallon Propane tank that runs our one heater the stove and the hot water heater. Roomie and I are both hot natiured so this is usually enough the stove acts as secondary heater and a good hot shower then crawling into a comforter laden bed usually will knock me out and by morning I have the comforters on the floor! ( the dogs LOVE ME!

Yes, the spiderwebs around here are crazy this year. And, they've started to come into the house, so I always see that as a sign of winter coming.

The almanac predits a "numbingly cold & snowy" Winter for us.

We've got a new snowblower to put on the front of the tractor, a new fireplace, with a ton of wood that's been seasoned, and a 4WD. I've all ready begun to stock up the pantry.

I say bring it on!! I'm one of those twisted people that loves snow.

I'm new to chickens this year and in my zeal to get things rolling I didn't give any thought to snow. My coop is planted about 50 yards out in the horse pasture. I hope it's not too arctic this year. I do however have 10 cord of wood so I have a nice warm house to come home to after my little nature walk.

I never believe the farmer's almanac. They have been wrong for my area 7 out of the 9 years I've lived in the country.
