So, they’re roosting.

…under the coop.

Meanwhile the other two knuckleheads were asleep under the food bin. When I came in to put them to bed they shuffled over and promptly got cozy right on top of my feet.

In other news, I found someone in Marysville with a young polish hen who DOES use her coop but the other hens are picking on her. Is it possible I could integrate her into our flock so that I’ve got a ringleader to teach these goobers how to go to bed at night? 😅

Nice, I emailed them back to set up a time to pick her up if they still have her. She’s a pretty little black polish with what looks like some white in her crest. Photos aren’t great so I’ll learn more in person.

They also have a gorgeous year old gold laced polish if anyone here wants one! They are in Arlington but said they could maybe meet in Marysville, happy to share info if anyone wants the other chicken. Found the ad on Craigslist.

Drove out to the feed store and picked up two bags of all purpose plus a bale of Douglas Fir shavings for the coop. The shredded wood I put in there seems to act like a sponge and soak up moisture from the air. I think the shavings will stay a little dryer.

I stick with ash from the wood burner on the floor and dirt.
No order or excess anything.
I use a snow shovel to clean crap in daily.
Lots less cost we buy our wood.
This next year we have the downed apple tree as firewood.

Wood ash is usually pretty grey! And we use it in our dust bath (the giant blue cat litter pan lol) mixed with topsoil and we have white silkies and they’re still white!
