A lot of conservatives don't much like PEW research, lol. That tso many of hose of the Christian left are actually starting to stand up and say, we are here, and enough is enough, I think has totally shocked the CR and scares the bejabbers out of them. We progresives are so pacifist, you know., real chickens and all that,.

A lot of what is being claimed as conservative right now, in the 'new conservatism', is actually liberatarian. Ayan Rand influence and the like. Who, ironically, was social Darwinist and rabidly atheist, lol, though many 'new conservatives' even on the religious right are embracing her and her ideologies without realizing that, never having read her themselves.

According to a recent PEW research poll, only 37% of Americans will admit to being a liberal. However, when asked about specif questions, from gun control to welfare, 73% of Americans ARE liberal. What has happened is a few loudmouthed entertainers have turned liberal into a bad word. It's not. Jesus was a liberal. Liberals want to protect the rights of everyone, even people they disagree with. Sometimes that protection comes in direct conflict with some old ideologies.
In the end, most of us agree on what is right and wrong, it's only when politics come into play that things get nasty.

Not really Mike. The love of money and the need of every country to have an enemy in order for the "leaders" to show why they're needed. Every single time it's about power and that is derived from money.

Now a poll. When will a moderator close this thread? It's gone on longer on this topic than I would have ever believed. But I will say the self control on everybody's part has been extraordinary

I'm really glad, in response to this post, that there are still people integrating guns into practical farmstead and sotck keeping lifestyles in practical and sensible ways. I was beginning to think all were left were the two dysfunctional extremes, people for whome guns are a macho and political statment, and those afraid of them. My faith in Americans is restored!

I would like to think we can all agree on my next statement in that there are "different strains of the same breeds". Whether it be birds, trees, insects, animals or ways of thinking. A Massachusetts whitetail is different from Illinois deer and a Texas one different than both of those. Turkeys same way. Conservatives,liberals,libertarians, republicans and democrats all different pending what part of the country you live.

I truly appreciate the way you think and CSWOLFE thought processes,I never condemn the way people think and never would. I think there is no "cookie cutter" version of anything. Where as you guys feel that you are liberals and you are by you believe that you are but here in good old Mass you would not come to be known as a "liberal". Only gauging by what you have posted,in fact here you would be considered a moderate or DINO( not saur but Democrat in Name Only or a independent). But goes back to my point that its all relative to where you live. My way of thinking here in Mass is thought to be right wing conservative(but nothing could be further from the truth) but in another part of the country it would be a middle if the road sort of thinking. For me that's about what I am,middle of the road, pending on the issue. I could be anyone of titles in the previous paragraph including turkey.

It has been entertaining to say the least of this post. Some getting the feathers up and digging in their spurs so to speak. There are some hot topic issues and gun ownership is definitely one of them.

I am a open minded guy but can't stand it when my rights and freedoms are constantly under attack by someone no matter where the hits come from. I just what to be left alone to do what enjoy not being told what to do by an overreaching government or someone that doesn't agree with what I do. I am a firm believer in you do your thing and I'll do mine. I don't care what someone else does, not my business unless it takes away from me then it's my business. Beyond that do what ever you want.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread with my morning cup of coffee! We have a small stash of firearms thanks to my husband. I have a tactical shoot gun due to a string of break ins and having hubs gone due to work. Because of the crime I will be getting my hand gun and concealed permit when hubs gets back My husband is in the military and I am a former teacher that now stays home with our two daughters. I will do whatever it takes to protect my family, including our non human members. If man or beast thinks they can come on our property and harm us, they have another thing coming. As a former teacher, I agree that the problems with children and guns lies with the parents. From my experience, kids are left to technology to raise themselves because the majority of parents are too self involved and don't take parenting seriously. Children are now accessories, they look cute and have $100 dollar sneakers but have no sense of reality. Years ago parents may have left kids home b/c of work but those kids were outside and not in front of the tube playing video games all day. These children are not going to listen to a parent/adult about anything much less"don't touch the gun". I was at one of the better schools in our states third largest school district and I had numerous 5 year olds refusing to do what was asked and telling me no. It's a big difference from when I was growing up and I'm only 32. Reasons why we will be moving our family to some land and far away from this nonsense when we retire from the military.

To many kids these days think their food comes from a super market and clothes, toys comes from a store and think nothing of the effort involved to get it them there. and allot of our goods like clothes, toys and other imports made in china and India from slave labor, so we can live the high life. kids these days are lazy and need to get out more. 2/3 of this country is fat because of this let someone else do it for us attitude

One of the many reasons we have a garden and chickens, and why we are getting bees this spring. I don't want my children growing up with that disconnect. My kids don't watch much TV, only a hour after dinner, no more. They help weed in the garden and care for the chickens so they can understand the work involved. We don't own a video game console of any kind, my kids read books or play outside. If they want something, they have to earn the money for it, nothing is given to them just to shut them up. They watch me work on projects, like building a deck or the coop, and often help in anyway they are able. They understand that you have to work for what you get, from food to clothes to a nice yard.

At least it was PBS, we don't have cable or satilite. I'm trying to get us out for no less than a hour a day since spring is here so early. I want my girls to be able to take care of themselves if need be and not rely on a man to get what they need. I have a masters degree and stay home because we chose to do that for our families well being and that's ok. I can't tell you how many people tell me I'm wasting my degree b/c I stay home.
