Farmers losing hope, suicide up

My half brother was busting his backside one summer trying to bring in hay by himself, got in an accident and now the lower half of his face is a mess. He lives in a house that is little more than a shack. I vote that the idiot who posted in response to the article work one summer on a family farm. As DH says when he sees people driving badly and too fast, that's a problem that will just take care of itself.

That Amaranth idiot..where does she think the grocery stores get their food? She doesn't sound like the type to grow even a tomato on her deck, much less grow crops of anything, raise chickens or anything else that requires her to get dirt under her nails. Someone has to feed those with no ability to feed themselves, sheesh. That type of ignorance is astounding.

Wow I never heard of anyone owning the water... we have our own well and water in excess each year to the point that DH prays for NO rain (of course I enjoy it because its less water I have to haul to the garden from our freezing cold cistern) I cant imagine a limit on how much water a person could use! The only crops that get any irrigation out here in our neck of the woods is potatoes and only while they are flowering.
 
my mother always said that farming is one of the hardest things to do whick is why so many stopped when work was available in the cities. That guy dos not know a darn thing I bet I could do his simple desk job with my eyes closed but I dare him to try to deal with just a few of my gardens!

this article is at the heart of why our country is in the shape its in. So sad

We seriously have our priorities out of whack. Instead of supporting those that don't help themselves, those that live on tax payers dollars, why not support and help the farmers? If the government re-did the welfare system structure, this would be a big start. Also, maybe our "leaders" need to stop jet setting and stay home and take care of business. How much is it costing us to send the President all over the world? What about our lovely Secretary of State? Why are we all having to be the sacrificial "lamb" so to speak??? What about all the automotive workers that have lost their jobs, what about the suppliers that have suffered? Why refer to them as the ones that have made the sacrifices and then jump in your helicopter and spend thousands of dollars for a date night? How can that be justified?

I work for Public Health and Environment on the air side - so I don't pretend to know all the legal mumbo jumbo about the water, but I have to sit through enough of those STUPID meetings to know that in Colorado a rain barrel is illegal because the ground water belongs to "someone else".

There is always a water rights battle going on here...
