What are your faster growing breeds?
Do any of yall have Hoover Hatchery Brown Leghorns? Those were the fastest growers in my last august orders, they were always bigger than the Hoover Buckeyes, Chanteclers, McMurray Hatchery Whiting True Blues & Pearl White Leghorns, RiR, Australorp, Wyandotte was the slowest, the only ones that may have kept up size at the same young age, were the Light Brahma of same age. These brown leghorns, now laying, are significantly bigger than the white leghorns.
Is this common for Brown Leghorns to be a fast grower and get bigger than white leghorns? I thought they must be Welsummer for a while, they were so big, but they arent.
Im almost thinking of crossing them to Brahma or Buckeye to put fast grow genetics into a dual purpose breed..., any thoughts?
