I'm curious and I hope someone can give me a logical explanation.
MY DH and neighbor just processed our 2 BB turkeys today. The tom and hen were 5+ mos old. Tom was 40# and Tammy was 30#. He said they were loaded with fat. I have fed them Purina Flock raiser from day one. They had a little scratch (maybe 2 cups or less) to get them in a run at night once in awhile, not every night.. (I had 11 turkeys total) They free ranged most of the time. Where did all the fat come from? The flock raiser? Bugs? I'm not complaining about the excess fat just wondered how they got it. I must have missed my biology class the day they taught it,
