my hens are in need of protein. does anyone know if fat back will work

Fat back is fat there is little or no protein in it. Do you chickens need fat or protein. Protein can be enhanced with additona soy meal or meat scraps.

Fat is good for chickens it just doesnt add protein

basically my hens are without butt and tail feathers. those are the older ones about 2 year old. the young ones about 9 months old don't have this problem.

I would give them more corn and meat/game bird crumbles.

Are your birds recievng protein based feed now? Commercial mix? How old are the girls and what is their history?.

Are they molting?

Raise the protein they are getting. I am sorry but vegetable based proteins are not the best proteins for a omnivore to live off of completely. They need meat. Bugs, mice, lizards, meat scraps, tbsp of wet cat food, etc.
