Faverolles Thread

Well, I might keep a few with pea combs as a separate line, then.

I think it would be easiest to keep the type if I did a double cross (that sounds really bad, LOL!). Cross a Fav roo on some Orloff hens, and an Orloff roo on some Fav hens, and then cross back to the MF parent on both sides, but then cross those F2 offspring with each other. I don't know -- need to sit down with paper and pencil and map it out, I think!

So if I can start breeding the first cross late this year, because these five chicks I have now should be old enough by August or September, then those chicks should be old enough for the next cross in the spring of 2011 -- so that's not so long to start to see what we get. Got to find some good Orloffs soon, though....

Are you going to try those, or get some Speckled Sussex?

color projects! It would be awsome if you guys had millie fluer faverolles how very French. I really want bbs and buffs but I will have to wait. I also love the idea of lavender salmon I think that would be an amazing color of faverolles.

Hmm. I might have to use the Speckled Sussex instead of the Orloffs-- I was thinking Orloffs had white legs, but I just checked and they have yellow. Since they also have the pea combs, maybe the SS would be better? I think I'll get a few of the Mille Fleur Leghorns from Sand Hill, too, since they might have white legs, and they have better color for this project than the SS.

Going to be interesting!
