i am going up there Saturday to pick up eggs :)

I would think it best to have the chickens at the farm where you work if possible. I don't know your situation, but I ASSUME you are there with great frequency? Also, I don't know various chicken breeds' habits, but there are 2 roosters just down the road from us and they think they have to tell everyone that the sun is up, the sun is still up, the sun is STILL up. All .... day .... long. Starting about 1/2 hour before sunrise. I can't imagine how you could keep a rooster quiet and secret for 6 or 7 months.
Yeah I have had roosters in the city before. I don't think it would work in this particular setting. Yes I am at the farm pretty much every day and even if I can't make it out I am sure my boss or other employees of the farm wouldn't mind either locking the coop or refilling food and water every once and a while. We will see I guess. I may end up selling the layer flock and only keeping some breeder quality faverolles pullets and having the rooster come up for conjugal visits during the hatching season haha. I feel like I could keep him under wraps for a few days at a time.

Oh geez, that's really too bad Henry, especially since those birds are gone now. Maybe if you're in a position to hatch some in the spring, I can send you eggs from my Merlin birds, and could do some of my big flock too....
Yeah I may be in a position to hatch some out later this spring. I am hoping to go back to breeding some faverolles soon at least. I am looking forward to working with LF birds as I found the BBS bantams to be fun in the suburban setting but I think being able to process extra roosters and market eggs from cull pullets would be more rewarding for me.

I am dealing with a similar situation here... just applied for an exception permit from my town. I am sure we can all work together to help each other out as far as future eggs and such go... perhaps you should focus on growing out a few exceptional girls and get a roo later, or you can put them (roos) in small cat crates at night and only let them out after 8:30... that has worked well for me
That is what I used to do when I lived in Suburban Maryland. Not sure the cat crate would work in this neighborhood as I am sourounded by fellow college students who aren't in the habit of waking up before the sunrise to go to work like I am haha. More like 11am wake ups haha. I agree about the pullets. That was the intended use for the Summer pullet who was taken by the coon. I was going to keep her until I could bring one of the other Merlin chicks I hatched back to breed her. But those plans are no good now that she is gone. So I am thinking I will purchase some started breeder quality/ show quality pullets from another line or something and get started that way in the spring I can bring the Merlin Cockerels back up and use them over the pullets from another line. I could then distribute eggs to others working with those lines and hatch and keep some for myself and put them back to the Merlin Cockerels. We will see how it turns out I guess.

Hi!
I am seeking hatching eggs from Faverolles. Bantam or LF. Prefer some of the more uncommon colors, but Salmon is fine. I am looking to start my own breeding flock of these absolutely wonderful, rare birds. I am having trouble finding any Faverolles, Salmon or other colored. I'd rather buy from a private breeder than a hatchery for numerous reasons.

I had originally planned to breed Cream Legbars, but they are not recognized by the APA and honestly, they are not that hard to come by. A search on almost any forum and eBay will produce several available! I still want to have some, though! The Faverolles are few and far between anywhere one looks. And finding someone with colors other than salmon...pretty difficult.

I'd like to show my birds at some point. I know the statistics of hatching show quality...but I'm still going to go for it.

Please! If anyone has any leads for me, let me know!

Thank you!

If showing an APA recognized breed / variety is what you're after, then you need salmons or whites. The ABA recognizes blue, black, and buff as well, but we are still a long way from gaining APA acceptance on those three varieties, though it is something I'm working toward... :)

Where are you located? Maybe you're close enough to someone to get started birds.
