Faverolles Thread

I did, sorry if I missed you there. I talked a bit w/ Ron Patterson and will be getting some hatching eggs from him next spring (I hope), saw the 9 or so Large Fowl Favs that were there... burst my fantasy bubble of seeing hundreds of them LOL (well maybe 50) Hopefully even more will be able to show next year
Sorry I missed you. Would of been nice to meet you. Did you get a chance to see the bantams? That is all I show.

I did look at quite a few, but mostly down in the youth section... had a friend with me that had other interests, and I was picking up a few birds so it was hard to see everything in the few hours we were there. Drove up and back from Virginia the same day.

I have someone that has said she would financially back the importation, BUT it seems a waste of time / money / effort to ship eggs via post. I agree that it would be a better choice to have them carried if I knew someone travelling that could do it...
With tight security in airports now a days, I don't think that would work either. Even going thru the x-ray machines would not be good for them. If it is very tight regulations and paperwork just get them in and out of Canada, I would hate to see from England.

I volunteer to go... but would need a ticket LOL Seriously though I would love to have the chance to do something like this for the breed. Was contemplating eggs, but too much of a risk and the temptation would be to use all of the birds hatched regardless of quality. Maybe there is something here that could go to the UK (another breed?) for helping breeders there that could help pay for the trip?

On a side note, I just found out about a fun new little feature on here, and for those that have mentioned wanting to see past pics...it only works on pics that have been posted since the upgrade, BUT, if you click on a pic, up at the top of the page that opens up, click on "gallery view", then you can scroll through thumbnails of all the pics on the thread and click on the ones you are looking for / want to see bigger. :D

I think bringing eggs would be impossible... a pipe dream really, to actually have an importation do much good it would need to be a flock comprised of as many genetically different individual birds as possible. What about the frozen sperm importation idea? I know it is commonly done for other species... I was thinking of a person doing the correct paperwork and BRINGING something (frozen sperm) to the UK to help pay. I have no idea how it is usually done, but it is such a common practice with cattle that some breeds are having issues with genetic mono-culture potentially causing long term issues within their breeds. Basically some herds of some breeds all over the world are too similar to be used together...
