Faverolles Thread

oooh, i just found a local who goes to our swaps that has a trio of bantam favs! i'm going to see if she'll hatch out a few of their eggs this spring or summer. her birds are just as sweet as mine and even let me pick them up without a fuss and give it a good cuddle! she has a mahogany and a salmon pullet in with a salmon roo so there might be a chance for mahogany birds from hers! they looked like they had all the qualities we're looking for too!

as for the egg color question. here's my girl Kiva's pinkish/brown egg compared to a mottled houdan's white egg, LF light brahma's brown egg, and an EE who lays a green blue egg. (left to right) sorry it isn't the clearest pic, my camera is a little outdated and takes better outside/natural light pics than indoor ones.

Are those Shay's birds?

Chickie'sMoma :

yeah, their Shay's. she said she got either the boy or the girls off of you i think?

The boy came from gypsy. I forget where the girls came from.

Of course I even forgot they were bantams. I thought they were standards! And I was there when she picked him up. I think the kids got all my brain cells.

she was thinking SpotsPlus at first and then thought you, but i thought she mentioned someone else that i didn't catch the name but i think it was one of the ladies up in Maine. and i know it wasn't from Chickn since that is where 2 of my girls are from. her boy is still young so i probably won't expect to see chicks till late spring or early summer.

She has some gold Brabanters from me. Unfortunately 7 out of the 8 I hatched of that breed were roos.

Only one I can think of in ME with favs is Laura and Sarah from Poultry Run Farm. They have very nice birds, and they show them too. Absolutely the noisiest chicks I have ever hatched. I could hear them on the other side of the house when they got out of those eggs! Of course they were all boys, but they were very nice boys. The kids hated to see them go. One of the funniest pictures I can think of is one of those boys hiding under my old BLRW roo Moe trying to get away from my cranky old layers after he escaped from his enclosure. moe could have cared less, the girls wanted to peck at him.

OT: heh, those brabanters were cute! kept sticking their heads out the pen to see who i was-curiously sweet! if only they had 5 toes! i wonder how well their genetics would work crossed with favs! were your brabanters hatchery or from a breeder? and what exactly do you call their color pattern? milli-fleur or something else?

never mind, i see that you hatched them-duh, it's getting late and i could use sleep.

Just ordered 2 standard Salmon Faverolles female chicks from Murray McMurray Hatchery.

Does anybody have experience with them? What about pictures of their birds?
