Faverolles Thread

Yes, I was somewhat awed when I saw his post on this thread as I am practically committing some of his articles on Faverolles to memory, I have spent so much time reading them! Welcome Mr. Merlin!

I for one will certainly appreciate any comments you have to offer on the topic of Faverolles.

Melissa,

If I didn't keep chickens, none of mine would ever die
If I didn't have my horse, I'd never fall off
If I didn't work, I'd never lose a job.

Need I say more?

If you sell alot of eggs, a crummy egg will happen, and there's no way around it. Don't beat yourself up about it (like I know you're doing). I probably would be beating myself up about it as well.
I can't wait to see the little chicks-sometime between wednesday and friday I expect.

Which one the blue salmon boy is headed to chickiesmama when it warms up. Next week I will hopefully be getting a pair from Leisha Comer and he will be my new blue salmon breeder.

The one in the last pic.

I love him he is certainly going to stick around for a while and breed with the salmon hens I have.

All hail the hatching queen! I want some of your magic hatching dust please!

I wish I could take credit for it, but I can't. This is my first 100% hatch. It helps if you start with great fertile eggs! Last time I tried to hatch Faverolles from someone else, I had one develop and then die before hatching. So, I guess you could say that I needed some good luck.

Henry, those birds are so cute. That's why I love the Fav. Bantams, they are still cute when they're adults.

I have the 8th LF pushing out right now and one bantam zipping and two bantams with enlarged pips that I am a little worried about. One pipped on the bottom side of the egg and the other one pipped halfway down but that was 24 hours ago he is starting to zip a bit now though. Hopefully all 11 eggs hatch and all 7 bantams hatch. All this hatching and the new hens is super exciting.

Wow Henry, those are really nice looking birds! Where did these come from?

They came from JL leighton in RI PM me if you want his contact info.

Very nice Henry. Almost makes me wish for bantam Favs again. It was a trio of the tiny ones that first made me fall in love with the breed. I bought them at a swap and brought them home. They were the sweetest chickens I have ever owned and sold me on the Favs for all time. I am still evaluating some of the other birds I have but I can honestly say if I could only have one the Fav would be it. Dependable in the extream, a wonderful sight to see, great as a meat bird, I love them, truly!

I am so very glad that you started this thread and that there has been such participation from so many. What fun!

For those of you who have or have had both LF and bantam Faverolles:

Are there any personality or temperament differences between LF and bantam favs? Is one easier to care for than the other (i.e., less health problems, hardier constitution, etc.)?

Thanks,
Corey

I have had: Black Copper Marans, Blue Marans, Cuckoo Marans, Delewares, Easter Eggers, Leghorns, a silkie, Wyndottes, Wellsummers, and True Ameraucana. Of all of these breeds Faverolles have been my favorites by far. I am so happy that I have both Bantam and LF can't wait to get some big girls and boys out in the coop again. I truly believe faverolles are the ideal chickens. I am glad that I have the opertunity to have them they are just so amazing! I am glad that I started this thread it has been better then I expected.

Thanks Peter! I am really glad I got these two hens my others don't have the type they do at all. I am thinking I will outcross these to the Jeff Oxley Cockeral and see what I get. I also have the hattrick hens. I am going to Email or PM you pictures of all of my birds so you can look at each one and tell me what you think. I am so happy I can work with this breed so early in my life.

Henry
