Faverolles Thread

Let me just add that I did not mean that anyone that has participated in this thread has seemed to have unrealistic expectations. I was really thinking about an e-mail I got this morning from someone who got a hatch of 5 chicks from 12 eggs... was disappointed in the number but glad that she got her eggs from me so early in the year...since she plans to show in the fall

So... since several people following this thread have contacted me about hatching eggs in the future I just wanted to get that out there... and I was able to cut and paste most of it from the response I sent to her e-mail, so it was easy;)

Please keep burdening us with your extensive writing! It is a pleasure to read these stories and to hear about the state of faverolles in this country, both past and present. You are inspiring a new generation of potential breeders and, for those of us like me who live in the city and cannot keep roosters or breed, you are inspiring a new generation of people who at least will be able to promote the breed and help get the word out there.

Great advice, Melissa. If only I had the space to start a breeding project! Sigh...

Here here! Do not give up writing either! A source of vast information is worthwhile. Go ahead and write a book! I am sure all of us would be waiting in line for your books LOL!

Melissa, you have outshine that advice, good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes sense to me its also good advice hope I do get a nice pair of whites. I didn't think it was directed at me now I am so tempted to get eggs from Ron in both white and Salmon

I need a farm! But am excited espeacially about this huge huge white chick he is very pretty and can't wait to see what he looks like as he grows out. I also can't wait to grow out some chicks from my own bantams espeacially the two new hens. I just bought a bunch of stuff I might need for showing can't wait for March I am taking them to be tested this weekend.

Melissa is right, and it's the same conclusion I had come to. I think it is best for me to find started bird, or young adults. Shipped eggs are a gamble - not all will hatch, no guarantee any will mature the way you want, and in my case they'd all be roos.

My biggest hurdle has been finding either started or young adult LF birds.

I defently agree that's what I am doing with bantams. I just want some pretty LF I guess maybe if anyone has any I would get a pair of good salmon or good whites but I really need to focus on one size. I will keep anything nice that I hatched from Melissa's eggs and then maybe keep a few extra pullets for eggs but really can't expand anymore. I have spent tons of money on adult and started btm. Birds and it was worth every penny can't wait to hatch from my own breeding and grown out some of their chicks.

I will have started and adult large fowl SF and BSF in the fall. No whites yet. The nice thing about whites is that feather color is a non-issue... as long as the bird has excellent type you are all set.

With all that said I have to say that sometimes you just get lucky... I had one of 24 Ameraucanas hatch once and got Uno... I have never regretted him.
