Hi lilypad, that's so cool! Yeah, I think the older she gets, the more difficult it will be for her to achieve that height.....I only have one full grown fav hen that can fly up to the top of a fence, but she's a hatchery girl, not as big as the others....
Hello there --
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but my question is about LF Faverolles networking possibilities.
I live in upstate NY and am trying to get to know more about these birds and reach out to those who are experienced in the breed. A few weeks ago I joined the Faverolles Fanciers of America and for some reason my registration is still pending. I can't contact anyone there. Maybe there is someone who can give me advice on that?
Second, though I have raised some beautiful bantam Favs from a dedicated breeder, I am having trouble finding a reputable breeder of the large fowl that I can contact and possibly buy from. I have bought eggs and hatched-out under my broody silkies, but honestly I'm not convinced of the quality. Everyone claims to have birds from "Boulanger" or "Merlin" lines, but....who knows? I am not interested in hatchery birds.
So, here I am hoping someone might point me in a good direction. Any up-coming shows where there will be a significant LF Fav presence in or around New York? Any suggestions for breeders on the East coast?
Looking forward to a groundswell of responses!
Thank you!
Have you seen the beaks on these guys? I wouldn't want mine that close to my eyes anyway anymore. We have had to make sure the kids make them sit when they are on knees because of them just to keep that big beak away from eye level. Much more lethat than my bantamsDoes anyone else's favs jump on their shoulders? I have one who does this every chance she gets and just chills there for a while, another just does it on the odd occasion. I love it but not sure they'll be able to do it when they're fully grown![]()
Awwww I'd really miss it if she can't do it anymoreAlthough she is the smallest and lightest of the 3, so who knows! Hopefully she'll stay small enough to be able to still do it
She preens my hair for me as well whilst she's up there LOL.![]()
Mary is right, make it to the Congress if you can. I expect Sandy will be there. I'm going to try to be there though unfortunately I won't have anything to show. I've just had to start hatching again so it's possible I may have some extras by January.Unfortunately, it's a bad time of the year to be looking for birds. Several weeks ago I hatched out some eggs from Sandy Provost, who carries both Boulanger and Merlin lines. I don't know of anyone in NY w/ LF, so you may be looking at eggs form somewhere else in the country. Who are your bantams from?
Make sure you attend the Northeastern Poultry Congress in January in Springfield, Mass. There's always a bunch of us there, although more bantams than LF.
I'm guessing that you mean that you joined the website, since you said you're "pending"...I'll go approve it right now. I check it periodically for new members, but if you joined right after I did it last time, it's been a few weeks. That's not a club membership, however, it just gives you access to the forums on the website.Hello there --

Well she's shown no interest in my eyes, she prefers to preen my hair and stare at my earrings hahahah. Other than that she just sits there and goes to sleepTheir beaks don't feel too sharp, my goldtop and orp bantam have lethal beaks x
