Faverolles Thread

Whew! Just spent almost an hour catching up on this thread. So many pics of such beautiful birds! :)
Glad to see you on here again! I tried sending someone your way for eggs the other day. But it seemed like your website was having problems. They wanted blue salmons, salmons, and whites. Hope your doing well.

Wow E, Tank looks... well, like a tank! I took a break from the breeding/hatching/egg and chick selling end of the Favs for a year and really focused on their meat qualities. I free ranged 200 Faverolles to finish last year as pastured chicken and I am now completely convinced of their utility as a dual purpose bird. Still I love that they come in such a beautiful package. :)

So good to see you! We'll have to catch up about your dairy farm experience.

Website was down for a couple of days for maintenence. We moved away from the giant hogs and in to a small homestead breed called American Guinea Hogs and needed some updates done on the cows since the site still showed our 2012 spring calves for sale (blush). Some days actually running a farm gets in the way of promoting a farm, lol!

Thanks for the referral. We will have hatching eggs and possibly chicks this spring having decided to go with some Red Rangers as meat birds this year.

That is awesome! So glad someone is working with them in the respect. My goal is to build my flock up to 15- 20 hens this year and then hatch a ton to grow out as meat birds next summer. Keep the biggest and most correct as breeders.

So true haha. Luckily the farm I work at now we have a whole PR marketing department so I won't have to worry about any of that. I am taking a job after graduation this spring as the Assistant Herdsperson and Pasture Manager at Shelburne Farms http://www.shelburnefarms.org/. So still getting some quality cow time have to leave for milking soon.

Would love to get some eggs or possibly chicks from you. Have always loved the blue salmons haha. Said I wasn't going to mess with them but I could be persuaded. I will PM eventually to catch up more about dairy stuff.

That would be really kool Henry for you to also have the Blue Salmon…..Because of the BBS it really isn't a matter of making them separate unless someone requests a greater chance of them. Gotta Say the Paso chickens are really nice…….The hens look almost the same and once you know what to look for, easy to see the blue and splash.

I used to have BBS salmon bantams. I guess there really isn't a huge reason to keep them separate. I will have to ponder on it. Might just stick with regular salmons.

I used to also but only have a few bantam Salmons now….just too cute to let go of….. enjoy LF Salmon but really like the Blue as well…..(Tank, my avatar is my LF Blue Rooster, Pasofino breeding). I have never seen a splash rooster but think they would be pretty.
