Faverolles Thread

Thank you - it's been rough...

Too bad the timing is off, I just sold a pair a couple of days ago from Henry's chicks. I have 4 girls and a blue salmon cockerel left...I'll have chicks early next year IF I can get SOMETHING to go "according to plan"...

I think you could possibly locate a good specimen of lav orp if you look hard enough. The problem right now is lavender is the hot thing in any breed (orps, silkies, and the coronation sussex), so people are auctioning off anything with wings as long as it's lav. Wait a year or 2 and it will be easier.

I agree I don't think many breeders of the Lavender orp project are doing right by them. Maybe only the Hinkles themselves and a few others. When I look at the Hinkles birds I can recognize Orp type and they are breeding their hens back to a very type black orp. Hope you will get involved in the lavender faverolles project soon hopefully Dick will send you a pair of splits eventually.

Henry

Same with the Sussex. Just take a look at eggbid on any particular day. It's too bad, same thing will happen to them as the black copper marans.

Speaking of Sussex, Dick will be up to his ears in them before long.

i just saw an auction for some of those lav and black orps. they did look like they are supposed to with the exception of the leg color-looks grayish.

Henry, i've decided on some names for the boys-the Hat Trick boy has been officially named Apollo since he is such a bright and shinny boy! btw, my dad saw him the other day and was impressed with him!

my dad isn't much of a fan of roosters since my mom is a collector of the 'maintenance free' type and those keep multiplying!

the Oxley boy reminded me of my grandfather so now he's become Moses or Mosey as was a nickname he had. he's such a calm and beautiful boy! my cochin boy seems to enjoy his company too! he's been hanging close to Chloe and when one of the other girls was trying to pic on her at the food dish he would kindly give her his spot and watch the other girls for picking behavior. i'm hoping Kiva will give into his advances and not peck and run from him when he comes close.

i've definitely noticed a size difference between those two boys and the one i got from Chickn. her boy, albeit older, has more size to him. his girl is a little bigger too! i've also noticed that the faverolles rooster crow seems quite compared to my cochin's, with all 4 boys occasionally crowing together for a few minutes it is a noticeable difference. i may be able to sound proof my outdoor coop so the early morning sounds will not carry outside it and they could keep cooler during our warmer days. now i just need to see about some tall plants to help buffer the sounds around the coop to lessen the chances of a neighbor complaint of sound. they love seeing the chickens and occasionally the roos, but they just don't like the early morning crowing when they heard it last year.
