My hubby must think I am crazy. I have a half doz eggs from 2 different pens of LF Salmon, and a Blue Cochin broody and a Buff Orpington broody... and they were both sitting tight on their dummy eggs

! I am putting them in their hutches tomorrow (they are asleep in the car for tonight,) and they will get golf balls for 2 days and if all goes well I will put the real eggs under them Monday night. Each hen will get 6 eggs from different pens. until then I will be

that they are not too disturbed to stay in setting mode. I also found out I have a cousin who keeps Faverolles!

When Dick introduced us I nearly fell over when I heard his last name. Anyway, I had a blast talking Faverolle at Dicks house and I hope my frazzled brain absorbed all that he had to say... it isn't every day I get to listen to someone who knows so much about my breed of choice

I am over the moon to have chickens again, just wish it was daylight when i got there so I could

My broody is on some Faverolle and Faverolle mix with orpinton, as well as two EE eggs. I got them from a friend of mine after my Roo died. I was so devastated by losing him, Im hoping to get some furry faced friends back in my life. Roo was my only Faverolle among my chickens. Im going to get some more Faverolle eggs from her the next time one of my girls goes broody. I just love those Faverolles.

In case anyone can answer, bumping these questions.... (please?)
1) they both have a bit of light color in the beard... might this go away with moult?
fl.gif

2) Germain has a dusky color to tha back of his comb unless he's active... could it be that the comb is so huge he can't oxygenate it? Could it mean something else?

3) Most importantly... Is Claudel recognizable as Dick's breeding? And Germain as Carol's?

The light coloring could be molted out but probably will not a small amount is expectable its very very hard to find a rooster with a pure black beard. I am not sure about Germain's probably it could be because of the combs size but not sure. I recognize the type in Claudel but never seen a buffington rooster before so not sure about Germain's type.

You would have to go back to the person you got him from. In the past few years I have sent eggs to California. Did this person get eggs from me or did he/she get the birds from someone else. On the Carol Buffington bird, I had sent her eggs years ago, and I believe Peter has sent her eggs years ago. I had sent Peter eggs and birds years ago and Peter has sent me eggs and birds years ago......WOW!!!!!!! maybe there all related.HA. Peter, I believe got his start from Sharon Mehler, I got my start from Bill Woods. We all strived to improve the breed. I don't mind if people call it a Boulanger bird, I would think some of the blood from my line is there. Yes, I've worked on my line for years, but whats really funny is that bird could be called Boulanger, Merlin, Mehler and Woods line.

Back then there wasn't much of a gene pool Peter and I worked hard to try and get the birds back to the standard. We kept trying to improve them every year. There is no perfect bird out there.
In the males having white feathers in their beards, as males get older they do get lighter. How heavy are these males?
