The problems is my setup it does seem to be something between me and him not an anithuman thing. Here living in the suburbs I move all of my male birds from there pens at night to special sleeping houses where the spend the late night and early morning. He is usually very unhappy! But I just can't have my neighbors being woken at 3 and 4 am. I will watch how he interacts with others over the next few days. The problem is I do really need him he is from Leisha's blacks and I want to take him over my splash pullets next spring. I think that its a good idea to move him to my chicken tractor until I need to breed him again. We will see the problem is he will be spending the fall and winter and also early spring with my parents caring for him so we will see. I am going to cool down for a while and then decide on a plan of action. Another problem is I let my birds free range and the hens are super friendly and food motivated so of course he follows his girlsfriends and then ends up standing right in front of me and attacks. I will give him a week and see what happens he is valuable to me as he is from different parentage then my blues and splashes.

Something has made him unhappy. What has changed in the last few days? it could be the littliest thing. Is this the first he has done this? Give the poor guy a break. LOL

Ha ha we will both get a while to cool our jets. He has never been my biggest fan though. Uh the last few days nothing has changed. I was wearing big tan boots for the first time outside this morning ha ha I thought that was it and now he is just ticked off that I grabbed him or shoved him away with my foot when he came at me. Hopefully we work it out. I like him he is really handsome and protects the girls from everything I guess now that includes me even though they like me and I like them ha ha. Don't worry I was a little heated when I wrote that before. I will give him till I leave for vacation because then a 14 year old girl is going to be taking care of him.

Henry, could it be that he has a thing for women and doesn't like men? i see it happen sometimes with different types of birds. do you take and throw down any seed/scratch as you come out to greet all of them? maybe you need to put a little food/treat incentive in front of him to distract his attention from trying to flog you!

Henry, do you really have to move him at night? Someone else in a different thread had a problem with an otherwise nice roo, and it began when she had to separate him at night. When she started that he began to hate her.

Everyone there has AC. How can they hear him crowing in the morning? He's the only roo too so it's not like it will be a constant sound off.

My mom is my new enemy!! or envy! Check out the link to the barn she just had built for her chickens! I'm so jealous.

My moms the one who the crowing really bothers. I think it really is the root of the issue though. I feel bad because I don't lock them up during the winter but during the summer I do. I don't know what the difference is but my mom doesn't like waking up at 5am ha ha.

I can't figure out how can she even hear him?? I have a gigantic Sussex roo out my window who starts in at 4:30 am this time of year. We have no AC, the windows are open so I have no problem hearing him. If the windows were shut it would be a lot harder to hear anything.

I need to be up by 4:30 so I don't mind the alarm clock. He does occasionally go off at 3 when some critter or other roams through.

My hubby is also a musician- he is a retired (early) music teacher. He taught percussion, music theory and beginner keyboard. He also is classically trained jazz drummer but mainly gigs as a rock drummer. He often subs for Cape Cod bands with less than a few hours notice- when you are in a jam he's the man to call, but his true love is funk and I hope he gets his funk band going again someday... and not just so I can be a guest singer again although that would be fun.
