Faverolles Thread

This is a very busy week. Birds need washed, van packed, trophies to pick up and lord knows what else I haven't thought of yet. Steph and Talon ( my 1 month old grandson) are going with me. Besides it being the Faverolles National, I get to see some of my old friends and meet some new ones. 6 hour drive, but it will be nice to get back into the showing season.
To all of you that couldn't make it this year, please make plans to come to the 2011 Faverolles National at the Crossroads show in Indianapolis, Indiana in October. I went to the first Crossroads show and it was amazing. You will not be dissappointed.
Will post pics of the show.

I didn't even know there was a show just for Faverolles. Good luck!

Once a year the club has what we call a National, but it is incorporated with an open show.

In 2012, I would like to have one west of the mississppi and one east of the mississippi. I will need alot of suggestions for the west show,so I can start planning.

Question: I bought two beautiful little Salmon banty pullets in May and adore them so much I've decided to try and get large fowl to compliment them - how is it no one knows about these wonderful birds?? My question is, I was checking out everyone to see who I might take to our show in October when I noticed what seemed like "burrs" under their chins, in their muffs. On further investigation, they are terrible knots - some of them were so big that the one had difficulty seeing to eat. I've never had muffed birds before - what is this, and how do I prevent it? Right now I'm resigned to not showing either of them, as these knots have to be cut out. I tried cutting through them - they are like rocks. Do I need to get out there every couple of days to comb them? My girls do not free range because of hawk issues - they are in a clean, packed earth run. I hesitate to get the large fowl until I get this issues taken care of. When I contacted the Faverolle Club on their web page no one answered me. Thanks!!

I've had my LF Faverolles for almost 2 years now and I have never had an issue with knots. I have other bearded and muffed breed birds and haven't had the issue with any of them either.

Maybe if you include some pictures that'll help...

I would love to host one in Oregon or Washington! We could incorporate it into the Pacific NW Poultry Association show in Stevenson, WA third weekend in April, or 3rd weekend in October!

Is it like their muffs are tangled up? Or is it actually in their skin?

It's not their skin, because we managed to clip a couple off. When I cut the knots open, it was just feathers. I'll try to get a pic or two. I was like, what is this, little birdie dreadlocks?
