Faverolles Thread

By the way, the garage floor where I've locked him up has an area of shavings in the corner and old feed bags laid out flat over most of the rest of the floor, plus stacks of full bags of shavings that he can roost on....

I don't think so its just like any blue breeding a percentage will be salmon a percentage will be blue salmon and a percentage will be splash salmon. The birds won't be mixed color or anything! Like in a bluexblack breeding the blue salmons will be improved by being crossed with salmons. Thats why when I separate them I will seprate the blue cock and two blue hens and also leave at least one or two salmon hens in with them. Eventually they will all run together in a breeding flock anyway but several people have requested just salmons and no blue salmons. I almost prefer blue salmon hens I really love their coloring. But it is true blue salmon's cannot be shown I am breeding to the SOP but I don't plan on showing my birds but if people want show birds from my stock I will try and provide the best salmons I can.

Well I take that back all this talk has got me interested in showing I am going to try and show a trio or so of Salmons at the Susquehanna poultry show. I have no idea how I will do! I think that I might have more success showing cockeral and pullets that hatch this spring in some fall shows but who knows! I will probably be showing two or three of the hattricksalmon pullets and the cockeral from the pair I should be getting in the next few day.

What do you guys think any of you shown faverolles before?

I went to my first show in October (my avatar is my roo at that show)...I showed them as a trio - should have shown them seperately - there wasn't enough competition to have shown them as a trio...although I was able to talk to the judge afterward and he really liked them.

At the April show I am going to, my birds will all be shown individually.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!!!!!!!! It's really a lot of fun!

If all goes well I will be showing 1 cock and 3 hens as individuals possibly two in the junior show and two in the open show or maybe all in the open show. I will probably bring some chicks to sell also. I am going to have them tested for Pollorum and AI in the next week or to.
