Faverolles Thread

Well I candled my eggs and I have some astounding new! I have to say I was floored

As you might remember I have a full hova bator and I mean FULL 42 eggs. 3 of those eggs are due next monday. I know I should have left them be but I wanted to see if they were still good well they are squirming and I can see their little eyes and bodies and hearts really cool! So the rest the other 39 eggs are due the 29th so its only day 3 or 4 and I know everyone says wait for day 7 well

to them. I just candled and all I can say is that out of 16 BLRW eggs from Nikki only one was questionable it had a small crack in the top and out of 20 Faverolles eggs from Nikki only 3 were questionable!!!! and out of my 3 eggs 1 was questionalbe. Mind you this is day 3 so I shouldn't be able to tell but imagine my excitment to see 34 little beating hearts and 34 veins I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE 29th!!! I will take tons of pictures of the babies. I know don't count your chickens before they hatch but how can I resist. The hovabator has treated me very well and the LG I am using as a hatcher is holding very steady temps. Hopefully nothing happens to spoil my fun but if it does I have more eggs coming

I am a faverolles madman.

What better bird to be mad about? teehee
I bit the bullet and entered Cornelius in Stockton... just to see how he does. He's a cutie but for sale now as I decided to stick with LF. If I can trade him for an LF Cockerel or roo, or eggs, I will!
I didn't buy a sale cage in case he fails, plus it's my first big show.

it doesn't show his feet well but he has 10 nice toes. He broke a spur defending himself when our elder Hamburg roo broke into his quarantine pen his first day here. Will they DQ him for that?

I don't think they would DQ him for that let us know how de does! I would take him if I had more room has his beard filled in since that pic looks like someone likes to pluck it out

I really love his color to bad you decided to go all LF they are great birds though.

Henry I don't know what to make of his beard. He had lots of louse eggs on his vent area, & leg scale when he came here, and I think was 'deconditioned'. I looked closely at it last night and I see pinfeathers. Maybe it's the last place to recover. Also his comb has a slight curl at the back. I'll get fresh pics this weekend.
Thanks!
Laurie

Oh that would 100% explain I have seen many cases where after losing condition or getting mites or lice the first feathers to go are the beard feathers. Some of my girls are just finishing up their molt they lose some of them to and then get pin feathers. Some of my adults from hattrick are still finishing up their molt and their butt feathers and beard seem to be the last things filling out. I think its because how are they supposed to get at the butt fluff or the beards to get the casing or sheath of the pin feathers off? its imposible. I have been giving some of my girls a gentle head and butt scratch to get rid of some of the sheaths just make sure the feathers aren't to young to be taken out. My girls just have a bit of the casing left around the middle of the feathers so and their is no way for them to get rid of them.

Anybody in KY or near KY, have LF SF's? And if you do, will you PM me please? Thanks!

ETA: Sorry, I should have specified that I'm looking for birds from breeders, not hatchery stock.

Hey, everyone! I have 5 Salmon Fav girls that I got from MPC. They'll be 5 months old in about 2 wks. Can those here who have Favs, post picture of their eggs? I'd like to see what I have to look forwards to. I know that I can google it, but I would like to see what people are getting from their own personal flocks. Thanks!

Some of the pink/ tan eggs are from my LF faverolles from Meyer Hatchery. The girls I got from there weren't bad quality for hatchery birds at all. I hope you are enjoying yours.

Thanks hcammack! Those are some beautiful looking eggs. Pink seems to be such an under appreciated color around here. And from what I understand, Meyers is the same hatchery that MPC uses to fill its orders. Now I'm really psyched!

You'd better believe it! I love all of my girls. I consider them to be my feathered children.

Oooh.. how I would be in chicken heaven if I had a basket full of PINK eggs! In chicken heaven if I had a flock of PINK birds! PINK is definitely not under appreciated here! LOL!
