Faverolles Thread

I know she's not a Fav, but I had to share this pic my son took of an Olive egger (presumedly cuckoo marans/penedesenca etc.)

This is my #1 keeper cockerel from July's hatch...(if his dad, who has been ill, expires) he has two brothers, one with a lot of white in his beard & chest, & one with a droopy eye (I suspect he's the one who had a foxtail in his eye as a chick) and a terrible comb. Aside from all that, they look identical. They are from the darker salmon hen from MacCallums Eggs, & the lighter roo from Bridgette Riddle. Not sure about the white wing feathers... might be his age??

Here is Audrey, my single pullet from Dick's July eggs, now old enough to join the hens

She's got a nice white beard, with a bit of mud in it in this pic. Their new home is nearly ready!

Henry, I just bought that book last week! - haven't had a chance to open it yet - it's on my farming/chicken shelf.

Thats great! I am working again next summer. You will understand my love for farming when you read about how amazing their farm is.

Ooh - very jealous! I'll be neck-deep in extra classes between now and next August, trying to finish my bachelor's so I can go to grad school in September.

I am just a Freshman so I am still taking time off during the summer to work. Not to worried about grad school yet more concerned about learning as much as I can from first hand experience on farms.

I wish more of the eggs would have hatched. But at least you have a start. I know myself, when I get eggs through the mail I hope at least four or five hatch. If I can get that I'm happy. It gives me something to start with next season.

Yeah shipped eggs can be really difficult to get to hatch! I would have 90-100 % hatch from my own eggs and only 20-30% from shipped eggs.
