Faverolles Thread

Just wanted to show you guys the livestock I am dealing with now! We have some amazing cows in the herd I am working with very very nice Jerseys and I get to make the breeding decisions along with the rest of the students in my program so you can understand why I have been busy. The same rules with chickens definitely apply it just takes 2 years to figure out if you did it right.

UVM Illusion Sierra is an Excellent 91

Henry,
Those look like happy cows!!!
I lived in Johnson Vermont '92-'95 at the Vermont Studio Center for visual artists & writers. There was a gentleman named Warren (can't remember his last name) who had a dairy farm a little north of Johnson. He'd graduated from UVM and was raising Guernsey and welcomed visitors. I learned so much about dairy cattle from him. Plus, during the winter, his barn was the only warm place (other than my studio) I could go to to draw. I'd sit on the hay, with the barn cats gathered around and draw the cows.

When I left VT in '95 (moved back home to Texas) Warren was about to get his organic certification for his milk. Wonderful memories!!!

Best of wishes to you and your love of chickens & dairy cattle. Sounds like you're working towards a fine farm in the future.

is this a Favorelle? 5 toes, feathered shanks? A local hatchery, and I use the term loosely, sold her/him to me as a Ameraucana chick...but it's not...

Not really....looks like a cross with something. I was going to say part Dorking but I do see feathers on the outside shank. Hard to say what the cross is.

Who knows what comes out of the hatcheries! I have a bantam red cochin from TSC, she has 5 toes. So does her 2 hatchmates, who are red frizzle cochins! All were in the mixed bantam assortment, and all looked identical.
