Faverolles Thread

So does anyone know how hard it is to breed out blue legs? (This really is fav related.) I have just ONE columbian type pullet out of my ermine F2s. She has bright blue legs. I understand feather color genetics but not leg color. Where does blue come in from putting this roo

Some of the gold offspring have blue legs like this girl

others are white like this

All but one of the gold offspring are female, all but one columbian offspring are male. All the blacks are male, plus a few salmon/black colored males. Yeesh, not a great pullet year!

Found a thread with information concerning leg color genetics.

I wonder if anyone can tell me if faverolles chicks are slower at geveloping/feathering out, or if my chick is having development problems?
New to raising hens, I received 5 chicks from MPC a week ago, including a salmon faverolles.
The shipping had taken its toll on the faverolles and she was wiped out for the first day and a half, but a good rest and the vitamin/electrolyte supplement in the water seemed to help her bounce back.
Now, she's almost obsessively at the feeder, peeping away (which kind of worries me, too), but she hasn't shown the dramatic growth that some of the other chicks have (Marans, Wyandotte and EE bantam). While they already are trying out their new wing feathers and have their tail feathers starting to come in, my faverolles is still a yellow puff ball (the favorite of all who see her, though!) At least she's still bigger than the bantam chick. When/if the bantam outgrows her, I'll really be worried!
I'm feeding medicated feed. Any advice or info.? Just wait it out?

Thanks in advance!

Ha! Sounds like my girls - who are adults! They are little piggies. Give her some time, as long as she's eating and drinking and her vent is clean, there;s not much you can do. Mine didn't feather out immediately.

Are you really in the Garden State? PM me where you are. Im in Monmouth County.

I am so in love with my Faverolles babies that I hatched from your eggs. They're 11 weeks old this week. I need to post some pics of my pretty girls. You tempt me with your 24 hour auction! Alas, I need to be practical and probably wait until next year...

While I'm "trying" to catch up on things, I'd like to first of all say AWESOME Peter! So glad things have been looking a bit more 'up' for you. I'm thrilled to read your posts and know your heart has been lightend a load. CHIN UP friend!

Jeanine, when (or I should say IF) you get any eggies from your Blu/Blks, I would be very interested in a possible purchase...however, there is no rush. I'm currently in the market for solid blacks, pure blues and possibly some white/splash. My salmon program is going strong, as well as blu/sal. Please let me know, quality adult or young stock would be considered also. BTW The whites I got from Leisha are stupendous

Thank you again hun, I just love them!

I also want to let everyone know (those who may be interested) I have been collecting/setting tons of eggs from my B/B/S pen. Now that I'm over-loaded, I thought I might share a few dozen. Please PM me for pics, but I have several birds listed/shown on this thread at the moment, which should give you an 'idea' what quality & type I have. And, Peter (bless his heart, I run him ragged) critiqued them for me

I Cant keep them all and would really like to see someone take these eggs and utilize them before I have to eat em for BREAKFAST!
