Faverolles Thread

Are you looking for birds or eggs? I have a recessive white rooster on white-carrying salmon hens. I get quite a few whites out of the pairing. I should have eggs once it cools down, and maybe chicks next spring.

I'm looking for birds. I wish I could have a breeding program, but right now the only thing I can do is show my birds. Mainly this is because I have no way to get rid of extra birds, especially roosters. I was lucky when I did hatch a couple of clutches that I could find homes for all of them, but chicks are easier. I have some nice-looking birds right now that I have offered for several weeks now, and can't find homes for them. So, I feel like I might be wasting that white gene because I could only show the girls, and not breed them. I only have a bantam rooster, and I'm lucky he's pretty quiet so my neighbors don't mind. I don't think that would happen with a LF roo. Thank you so much!

Speaking of the gene, what is the difference between recessive white and white-carrying? Or, are they that same?

I'm not really sure of the difference of carrying whites, and white spots visually. I'm not very good with genetics still, but as I see it, the white-carrying or white recessive salmon birds, are Salmon colored birds with a recessive white gene. When breeding two Salmon Faverolles once in a while you'll get a white sport. My rooster is a white sport. He has genes for Salmon but is white. In places, the salmon leaks through, but not very much. I bred him to my Recessive white carrying Salmon hen this year and got quite a few whites out of it. They were nice looking birds, but I would need to be pickier with the coloring on the boys if you were to show them I think. Out of 8 roosters 3 came out pristine white. The other three had blotches of salmon color on their tails. I noticed, as one pullet got older, that she developed some salmon tinting on her back, very light, but noticeable. Thats where I don't understand the Recessive whites. Because they aren't perfectly white. So can they be shown as whites?

I also heard from another breeder that you can breed the recessive white Faverolles back to Salmon if you wanted, as well.

I'm moving right now, but I can put you on a list for my next batch of white chicks if you were interested. You would probably need to talk more to more experienced breeders about the show-ability of the white sports and recessive whites though.

The
tinting I mentioned before can be seen in these pictures. If you look at her neck and chest, she has a faint apricot colored pattern developing.

And the boys, shown later in the picture slideshow, are white. But they have some brown smut in their tails, and markings on their neck resembling salmon faverolle hackles.

Now, is this counted as an F1 generation white, or is it not white at all? It can be improved to be white, but is it white in this condition? I really wish I kept that pullet now. I would have loved to have sold her to you Mame. ):

Oops - It said the page was deleted or something. That's ok, I can see what you're saying. Thanks for the info!

Leisha, thanks for your info, too - are the Pattersons on this thread?

PS - Has anyone heard from Dick lately?

I am looking for some LF Salmon Faverolles. I have a beautiful roo, who has no female friends. I had one hen for him, but she decided to go broody over the summer, refused to get off the nest to eat or drink, and died. If any one can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it!

OK. So here's an idea that I had. I think that there haven't been very many items donated to the raffle table for the faverolles club at the crossroads national. I'm not sure what has been donated but I know a couple people maybe sent some stuff to Leisha and maybe a few intend to bring their stuff to the show instead of spending it on postage. That's what I intend to do. I am donating a few bars on soap to be raffled as "lots" of 3 or so bars per lot. I also am in the process of making "sets" of egg christmas ornaments. My idea was to offer my soaps for sale here and $1 of each bar sold will go to buy "chicken stuff" and this will then be raffled at nationals..... So I have homemade goatsmilk soaps for sale $4 a bar. They weigh 4.5-5.5oz each. Most of these bars aren't quite through with their "cure" but will be ready soon. I will ship them as cheaply as possible.

Scents I have are: chamomile neroli facial bar (infused with real chamomille), black raspberry vanilla, eucalyptus spearamint (masculine), amber romance (victoria secret type), coconut lime verbena, moroccan fig, cucumber (with real cucumber), rosemary/lavender herb (infused with real lavender), yuzu grapefruit, oktoberfest pumpkin lager (YUM made with real beer), dirt (camo-great for kids or deer hunters, smells like real dirt!!), and vanilla. I still have many scents to make, including oatmeal milk and honey (Yum!! this is awesome!! I have some bars ready but weren't cut on a nice cutter so aren't really pretty), lavender, sandalwod, energy - citrus blend, and many more

I thought I would post some updated pics of my babies who are 5 months old now!!! Seems like I just brought them home Yesterday!
