Faverolles Thread

Thanks! sorry for the blurry picture. I feel I have made some progress, I know that Red Jack, the line bred Black Jack son (Black Jack from my original hatch from Dick) has better weight and flesh. He is not as large as his dad was at that age, but is much better in type I feel. Red is being used to improve color, but he has comb issues from the hatchery blood that need to be improved upon: a few too many points on his comb, side sprigs, and a thumb print at the front. Happy with the size and over all shape of the points. I have another bird from similar breeding that is better named Junior, I am hoping to show him this year. Both of these roos have better combs in regards to size and shape then their dad- Black Jack has a puny lil comb with blunt points. I like a roo to have a comb that balances the beard well. This is a picture of Junior at about the same age.. they might have been as much as 6 1/2 months old but definitely no older. I like the smooth transition Jr has from head to neck to back, and his wing bows are rather good for his age. He is nicely balanced and I feel he will blend well with some typey pullets I have growing out from Vice, a roo I got from Dick that was from your breeding. Sadly he panicked and took off one day, and could not be found. Here is his picture... what pen of yours do you think he came from Peter?

Here is Miami, the other roo I got from Dick:

He is very much like your Rupee... let me know you thoughts

as promised here is the "evolution" of my favs...

This is Simm and his full brother (who didn't make it for obvious reason) Hatch 2001

Simm at 3 yrs.

Summer represents the Simm blood and his type is on target with that. Hatch 2011.

Reesa represented the Simm breeding also. Hatch 2011. Had his comb not fallen over he'd have been retained. These two guys are/were short, wide and heavy.

For those that remember my horrible spring last year...

As I have no more Cannabis I've had to resort to the legal alternative.
Cannabis Hatch 2010

Dammiana, represents the Britboi blood very directly. Hatch 2011. Cannabis, Dammiana and Daniel are Britgirl produce. Britboi grandget.

Daniel, full sib Hatch 2011

Britboi Hatch 2001/02 from Dick

Britboi at 3 yrs

To my eye I think they've improved. Britboi was a tall bird. As I like mine closer to the ground his grandget are that from selective females used with Britboi.
Yes, thier not perfect but I think I'll keep em...
Have a fun day everyone.
Peter

Such handsome birds Peter all the way through. I agree they stance is different on the newer birds. Very handsome. Love the names haha. Thanks for the evolution very informative and great to look at. Also love Summer that wide stance is just right.

Everything sent to Dick were Arthur get and produce of My Girl and Adore Me. So they would be sibs to my Marcel. I like seeing the pics because I have only one male from that breeding. There is some what a cookie cutter effect That's what I was after.
Rupee. Now that's some tight Simm breeding. I have Rumm (full sib) in with her father Rupert and hmmm brother..... lol Perhaps 5 heads and 1 toe......lol We'll see as those eggs went out for the first time this past Mon. 21 days from fri we'll see?

Thanks Henry.-) I have heard about the hatch in OR and am VERY pleased with some improvements that seem to have occurred with Marcel's and Summer's kids. It is said several of them may be almost blinded so young from the beards and muffs. That's a problem........smirk That everyone should experience.

Yes????

Thank you for clearing that up for me

I had wondered if they were from the same pen as the eggs I have in the incubator now. So the Miami and Vice roos I got from Dick in the late fall were from Arthur, My Girl and Adore Me. That would make the pullets I hatched out from Vice not related or second cousins to whatever I hatch from the eggs you sent right? I am probably not going to keep Miami as he is very tall, just using him this year to try to get some pullets to help bring up tail size a bit. I will be culling for height as well. A friend is sending me a camera so I will be able to post better pictures next week. The 3 lil pullets from the late December hatch are very short and compact like their dad was. I plan on keeping at least 2 of them if not all 3. I hope to put them with either a Red Jack x Merlin pullet roo, or Junior x Merlin pullet roo this fall. I still have one nice pullet from the birds I got from Dick last fall. Having a ball with watching all of the babies develop... and of course I also have the Mahogany babies coming now as well. Wish I had more space LOL

With the eggs you were sent you could use Miami on any of them. Marcels pen is full of the britgirl daughters and granddaughters. Summer is breeding.... uh huh Marcels pullet full sibs..
You say Miami is too tall? He looks to be balanced to me. Too tall for me implies stringy tall bird with no substance. He looks to have plenty of substance so I'm not sure what you mean. Height is always relative to width. If it's a balance go go go. Don't take this on a personal but I would question the reasoning there. You have the complete setup to continue breeding uncle to niece etc. If you do let him go I hope he goes to someone that will be able to improve their own stock with him and that he's alive in another year. My birds do not mature fully till 3 or older. He won't be a full year until March 23. He's several months older than Marcel. Again, I like the look of Miami. But to each his own.-) Box is nice. BIG box I'd go for in a heartbeat. lol Remember? The tighter the sweater saying?
Peter

Perhaps a better picture would help... Miami is the roo w/ the girls. He is built tall but with good substance, I feel he would be going in the wrong direction as far as type goes as he has a long neck and long legs- he towers over all the other birds except Black Jack. I am going to look at his get before judging him entirely in case his Phenotype and Genotype are not the same. He is a nice boy temperament wise, and has good color. Many people will have gotten eggs sired by him from my various EBAY sales so his genetics will be shared all over.

Maybe I can convince my husband to go with me... so he can have his picture taken at any signs with the town name on them, his name is LUCAS and he loves to have his picture taken with things that have his name on them... it's a long shot but I will work on him a bit
