Faverolles Thread

Nope, my bantam Favs. :/

Seriously?! I hatched a bunch of those BBS favs when I had them and they were laying and never go any off colored chicks. That is crazy. These are the ones from Leisha right? Did you get any from Dick or I along the way? Hopefully no one let salmon sneak back in there that would be a shame. Hope its just a freak accident and you don't have many that ended up like that.

These started out from Leisha, but I got them from Kassandra. I THINK I have it narrowed down somewhat as to which birds they are coming from. I think there's just some weird recessive thing lurking there, and now that I have 3 generations here at my place I'm starting to see stuff. There's been about 6 or 7 chicks that I know of for sure....

Jeanine which colors have the most faults?

Even though we are IM'ing on FB, I'll answer here too, so others can see it...

I have a large group that's got a black cock over black and blue hens, and a trio that's a blue cockerel over a blue and a black pullet.

I hatched one chick early on that ended up being a cockerel, that started out looking like he was going to be mottled...black and white leg feathers, white spots on his chest, but then he developed a bunch of silvery hackle and saddle feathers, almost like he has salmon back there somewhere...in short, he's a mess. LOL
I currently have 2 chicks in my brooder that I'm also growing out to see what they are going to look like, because their stripes were different colors (one brown and one blue) these are only about 4 weeks old, so don't know what they are going to do yet.

I have a bunch of eggs that I set this week, with the timing of these hatches, I will be able to do a much better job of sorting the eggs at lockdown and being more aware of exactly which chick came from which egg so we can try to get this mess figured out ASAP! :)

That is really interesting. Hope you get it all sorted out and can cull those birds throwing strange stuff.

Sounds like to me the white gene is popping back out from years ago. Dealt with that the first 3 years I worked on them. The first year I hatched over 150 blacks and kept 5. The toe gene could also pop back out too.
