Faverolles Thread

So who on the East Coast is going to the Poultry Congress show, in Springfield , Mass. next month?

I'm going, Leisha. I really like that show - but bundle up! It's freezing! I think I'm going to get those little warmers for my hands and feet this time.

Ashandvine, it's not "A" Congress, it's "The" Congress - the Northeastern Poultry Congress, in Springfield, Mass, Jan.19-20. It's a large poultry show. You can download the catalog on their website, http://www.poultrycongress.com/. Entries are due Dec. 27.

Dick - so happy you're going! Wait until you see these girls from the eggs you sent me!!

I'm planning on going to the show.
Dick

Can't wait to see you again

This years birds are looking good but not in time for the show

Wow, what a beautiful rooster, very neat coloring.....and the geese are gorgeous (I've never seen them before!)....

Yeah they were pretty, both roos exactly the same. Poor leg feathering and feet, but heads and beards were nice. Type was kind of round for a fav, more like an orpington. I just could not see where to go with them. Chicks from my unrelated darker salmon girl (who had to die for toes) were showing the toe issues, not as bad but still there so I knew it would be popping up for quite a while. Cockerels hatched were salmon in pattern (possibly split?) and a pain to keep track of as I had them mixed w/ pure salmon chicks... they also were not even close to being keepers (dang toes) and I was drowning in unwanted cockerels so I sold them as yard art or put them in the freezer. I just could see they would require more room and effort to work with then I was willing to give to them, especially with just the one hen to work with.

As for the sebbies, they are awesome pets and mow my lawn for me. I do not even feed them from May through October, they just eat the grass and their babies are always selling out quick at $65- per gosling locally. I had them years ago and got them for myself as a birthday present/excuse 2 years ago. They are unrelated to many of the ones here as they are from a show line from Canada that is unrelated to Metzer or Holdereed's stock.

I am excited to hear people are going to this show. I think I will enter something even if they aren't in condition. Waste 6 bucks and get to go hang out with faverolles friends haha.

Also jealous of the British. Wish we had this many faverolles at any given show. Also look at the size and different colors of the birds!

I'm in the wrong business! I need to sell my mini-cows and get sebbies

They were Sandhill stock? As gorgeous as they look, it sounds like a lot of work. I wouldn't even know which issue to address first

I just hate having a beautiful bird that doesn't fit into any color variety, frustrating. This summer I lost a young SF hen, she was spotted. I think if I'd had a pair of them, I probably would've started my first project.

As AshandVine said earlier, "so many birds, so little of everything else!"
