Faverolles Thread

ah, the joys of clicker training...when I was working as a dog trainer in college, one of my roomates target-trained our giant Oscar fish to jump out of the tank and freak people right out!

When I worked at a aquarium store we got in a HUGE 28 inch long Guinea Fowl puffer fish that was in the store FOREVER. I shaped it to "wave" on cue using a bright pink cover to the shrimp he loved. The finished product was a fish that on cue would swim to the top of the tank, roll onto it's right side and stick it's left pectoral fin out of the water, and "wave" it hard enough to splash water. It was right around the time of the Nemo craze and boy did the kids eat it up LOL

sadly it was long before video capable cell phones... but I did find a video that will give you an idea of what it was like

you can totally see how smart they are, he is totally trying for eye contact here (and how bad they beg LOL)

Fish are the worst beggars. I had a Jack Dempsey cichlid around the same time that was incorrigible...his tank was at the head of my bed, and if I didn't feed him *immediately* upon entering my room in the evening, I swear he'd deliberately splash water all over my pillow. Had a couple of Blood Parrots in the living room, watching them get into battled with the cats when the cats would drink from their tank was a riot!

My son just did it "because". He didn't use a clicker though i think that would be easier. He just has a really sweet hen, and after a couple times of directing her, she did the weave poles by herself. The only thing she wouldn't do was the tunnel. :)

The MF Fav that I had wasn't true MF. She was an oops from a blue salmon x mottled breeding. Misty bred her.

I had started a MF Fav project with d'Uccles but scrapped it when all the F1 babies turned out to be jerks.

Just put some older chicks on the ground today :love
I only have a trio of older birds, so I put them together in the breeding pen, and sat and watched for bullying, but the older faverolles just watched the chicks for a little bit, cautiously, and then decided they weren't a threat. Such a lovely breed.
