Faverolles Thread

Wish me luck, I am getting a trio of Large Fowl Salmon faverolles on June 8th!

Snapped a few pictures of the hens enjoying the new coop and run.

The new coop still needs to roof attached, window added, plus vents. But we are finally getting somewhere with it.

Best Hen again

Most of the girls you can see the size difference between the rest of the pullets and the best 1 or 2.

I am saving some eggs now from these guys and hope to add some more birds to the flock this summer and fall.

Those are some nice looking ladies you have there. I am jealous! I am hatching nothing but boys this year.

Your coop is coming together nice. Do you have a Rooster with them now? I want to see some of your rooster pics.

The rooster is out at the farm I work on and all muddy. So won't be taking pictures most likely. Need to focus on getting a nice cockerel or two to grow out this summer. For next springs season.

I have a mama hen! This is just too fun. Sharing pictures as she sat on the eggs..and then after they hatched. She is such a good mama. She's a bantam Faverolle. Here she is sitting patiently.

Here she is being mama hen. She is good with them. In the picture below, there is
a baby peeking out from under her chest. Cute! I haven't had the opportunity to watch
this in a few years..so, I'm having fun. :)

I picked her up, and all 7 babies popped out. She started clucking at them like she was
saying, hey, get back in here right now! They are just mixes except for the white. It is
a pure RIW. Will get bigger than mom for sure. I have some LF Faverolle eggs in a bator
now, since I've seen what a great girl she's been. And, she laid 4 weeks straight! Didn't miss
a day. I thought, I want a LF that lays like that! She had been laying for a couple of months
already, then she did the 4 week straight thing, then went broody. Great layer. Hope
she gets back to that and doesn't go broody as often as the silkies! Had those in the
past.

What a good momma!

Finally got round to reading Desperellas thread (well started any way lots of pages and adventures to catch up on yet :) and was interested to hear her mention that she honked.

One of mine sounds more like a goose than a chook sometimes and Ive been worrying she may have a problem as we have had sneezes, but now Im curious if its common for favourelles to honk?

And I also have to ask, and sorry if this is the dumbest quiestion out there lol but Ive been looking at easter eggers and darn if they dont look a lot like favorelles. Are they a related breed or something? Of just coincidence?

NO dumb question especially since there are some who have been enamored with Favcaunas, a recent Faverolle/Ameraucana cross. (there is a thread on BYC on them)...The wheaten hen version of the Ameraucana is colored and often looks similar to a Salmon hen. Don't think that they are related ...Ameraucana hens are less fluffy, Roosters slimmer and more erect, have 4 toes not five, should have black or willow legs and should lay blue-green eggs even thou EE's are known to lay a sort of pink egg too. Amer/EE usually have the muffs and beards too but not always.

I just found that *My Pet Chicken* lists them as a designer breed, the goldendoodle of the chicken world.....
