Faverolles Thread

Hello! I will be showing some of these at the fair and I was hoping to learn more about them and im also doing a speech on them , I know they have a 5th toe and they were developed in France in the 1860s but I don't know anything else I was hoping you could help since this is on this breed :)

Good for you! They are an excellent breed to speak about. Here's a good article on them from the Livestock Conservancy. Their status is listed as "Threatened."

Here is my Salmon Faverolle Roo and a couple of his hens. Hatched these from Sandiclaws eggs some time back. I really love these birds. They are the friendliest chickens I have and I really think the Roo is gorgeous.

From this flock, I have a whole bunch of gorgeous little chicks in the brooder and many more in the incubator.

Lovely start to a flock, so glad you are enjoying them. The more pictures of egg babies from my flock I see, the more I realize I might have stopped selling eggs a year later then my plan should have called for. So glad you are one of the lucky ones.

I'm going to be getting some Favs this week and they can be a mix of either Salmon or Blue. Does anyone have chick pictures that will help to determine what color they will be (or be able to tell me if it is something I can see now)? They hatched today.

Solid blue or blue salmon? If blue salmon then the chicks will all look the same right now.

I have Salmon and blue salmon and its really hard to tell from the pictures I took but I have some that are 8 weeks right now of the cockerels I can tell, but not the pullets I can post the pics if you like? So at least you might be able to tell when they get older

In that case you will find out what color the cockerels are when they begin to feather in.

Salmon cockerels will have a black chest and black leg feathering.
Blue salmon cockerels will have a blue chest and blue leg feathering.
Splash salmon cockerels will look like they are feathering in white.

With pullets the color is harder. They will all look like salmon pullets. The difference will be in the wing/tail tips and underfluff.

Salmon pullets will have dark grey to black in those areas.
Blue salmon pullets will have blue grey in those areas. These two can be hard to differentiate.
Splash salmon pullets will have white in those areas.

Here is an example of a blue salmon cockerel from someone on here (Cloverleaf maybe?)
