Faverolles Thread

This is actually my first post here, but I wanted to stop in and say hi!

We picked up 2 of the Bantam Salmons this spring and they have just been the best birds we have ever had, great little layers and friendly and they seem to be much smarter than the Silkies we previously had. Right now we only have the 2, but as soon as our coop and run redesign is finished I am hoping to add to our little flock which consists of the two Faverolles and 6 Porcelain D'uccles. Knowing the breed is considered endangered is pushing me towards learning to breed and show these little lovelies!

This is my favorite girl and the head hen!

I might have missed it somewhere in this thread, but I did want to ask, is the personality of the large Faverolles similar to the little ones?

I have just begun this year with test breeding to see what i have with many thankyous to several breeders whom i have received stock and valuable information. Right now only some are laying but i would hesitate to sell any eggs because i am not sure of fertility with the hot weather blitz we just had. Possibly in the Fall but all colors would be in a project classification. fyi,I am not NPIP nor do i vaccinate at this time…..  Thanks for being interested, eliz

I would like to get some when you're ready. I'm not NPIP certified neither nor do I vaccinate. I would be interested in the blue ones as well.

Here are my babies!

The one near the heat lamp is Cornflake a welsumer pullet.

And this is my little faverolle boy Gandalf,

I was calling him The lord of the eggs or the bearer of the one ring because I paid to have him sexed with a leg band, but I took that off this morning so his little leg can grow out. I am completely spoiling him.

And this is one of his elven girls - Arwen, she is so pretty and I love her little puffy cheeks.

If anyone could give me some pointers on what to look for in a show quality bird I would greatly appreciate it! Please ignore the silkie photo bomb. I know one hen is too dark already, but my girls on either end seem to have nice coloring. I'm kinda new at this! Thanks!!! :)

Are you positive these three are all girls? The one on left and middle look like cockerals? I sure hope so as it would also give me hope for the chicks I have! I am scared I am ending up with 9 boys and 4 girls right now!!

Those 3 are all pullets. Post pictures of yours and we an help.

My apologies if this has been asked many times on this thread but its too long to read through. I keep reading that Faverolles cocks are "quiet". I'm not sure what is meant by that statement. Are they referring to a low volume, a infrequent crow, both: or is it just a bit of sales hype?

I don't know about quiet. Mine sure weren't. The one we kept the longest was loud and proud starting early in the day and then any time during the day when he thought someone/something should be notified that he was the man.
