Faverolles Thread

One hatched yesterday afternoon and one was out when I got up to check temp/humidity at 4am! No other pips yet but today is just now day 21. These two were flopping and running around the incubator so I moved them to the brooder. They're totally dry but their feathers are stuck to them, that's normal, yes? Lol, this is my first hatch!!

Long Story Short. I am building a Blue Hen Flock and found some beautiful pictures of Blue Faverolles. I would love to have a couple of these for my backyard collection. Does anyone breed these?

Elizmartin may have some, though I think most are black. Other than her there is just barngodess and I know she has broken up her breeding pens for the season.

Thank you I will have to look into this. I may need to wait till next season which I am ok with. It is tertibly hot right now so shipping eggs or chick are not a good option anyway this time of year.

I am fairly sure you will have to wait until next year. I don't know of any breeder that ships chicks, so you will have to try eggs. Pam Mynard (barngodess) is in TX and she has the largest breeding flock of blue/black I know of. I am not sure what elizmartin got out of her blacks this year. Maybe she can post an update.

HI, had a few blues but lost for various reasons….lots of blacks and a few odd splash. No one is laying right now & i would worry about fertility with the heat.

I've seen someone use pictures from a hatchery like Meyer's or My Pet Chicken, and just write a little one line disclaimer, saying that those weren't the actual chicks or parents, but a representation of what the breed generally looks like.

Not sure of the legalities.
This is hard if you do not have pictures,,,,for all, please do not use personal pics without permission in ads…We just had earlier this year someone who was using pics from a farm in the UK without permission or credit stating where the pics came from, stating that it was permissable since it was not in this country and our copywrite rulings did not apply. This was to advertise *their* chickens on *their website* and was quite hurtful to the owner of the pics used and clearly did not represent the birds they were selling…... Only after much asking were the pictures removed.

If You use something from a commercial entity it still is not really legal but the disclaimer used above as well as where it is taken from *may* be acceptable.I think it would be unlikely that they would persue legal action while receiving free advertising…..

elizmartin: That is exactly the reason I was asking LOL I would be upset if someone used pics of my birds without permission. However, I am in a quandary then how to display pics of what adult SF look like. I would think I could use pics of the parents from the breeder I got the eggs from?

Farmer VIola: I somehow completely missed your feedback on what sex you thought my chicks were even though I read through all the posts daily!! Thank you for the feedback! THey are almost 4 wks old now and there are only 2 out of the 12 that I am sure are females. The other 10 are looking suspiciously male! I will post more pics this weekend for some update feedback!

I've been investigating LF Faverolles to use as a true dual breed. Are they good winter layers? Has anybody been processing extra cockerels? If so, at what age/size? Do they have a presentable carcass?
