Faverolles Thread

I want to show you the picture of my little "hideaway" Fave.
(She was the suprise at the bottom of the nest this spring.) She is quite a bit darker than any of my others and not in the Fave pen. I, like you, will not raise a fuss with Ideal, but she's not a typical color at that age. Maybe the Fave rooster (her Dad) was a work in progress for darker roos..... but who knows. I can only assume she will lighten like my others did. If not, that's ok too. She's very sweet.

This is a roo. The males of this breed are the only ones with those colors. Silverish yellow hackles, mahogany body and dark chest.

You could certainly be right, but let me show you some more pictures........ Here she/he is with a rooster that was hatched within a couple of days of her/him: His/Her posture is wrong for a roo. Also, he/she is very submissive. A banty easter egger in with these two chases Him/her all over the pen, away from food, etc. I think the determining factor may be when he/she crows or lays an egg. (I do agree with you about the coloring, but the "neck" feathers are blunted and fluffy. This baby has me stumped now.....
Has he always been beardless? What about the lack of leg feathers? Is this bird directly from Ideal or one you hatched?

He/she has never had a beard, and never had leg feathers. The hatch date was the end of May. Mom and Dad (I know for sure this is Dad, but Mom could be any of the hens) and they

were directly from Ideal. He/she is a first generation home hatched. Here is Dad, who molted his tail feathers and beard this year...but does have both. (The hen could be Mom, or not) All of them lost their beards some more than others. Neither have leg feathers to be proud of....mostly after thought leg feathers, if at all.

I am not sure if this will help but this was my splash male at 2-3 weeks old:

Your cockerel chick is a blue salmon. Splash salmons look like this

What other hens do you have?

Can anyone tell me how to sex blue and splash faverolles? My salmons are very apparent which is which. I just can't find any info about the blue and splash colours.
If you post pictures maybe we can help.

This guy is 7 months old and hasn't even started crowing yet. He was practically naked until 6 weeks of age.

most young Fav. boys are more submissive rather than rambunctous as with other breeds and are easily bullied. If he is being chased around. i would pick *him* up to feel weight and make sure that he gets his share of groceries. When i started i lost a few because you don't always see the behavior and who is dominant, but when they begin to show that they are in trouble from hunger its usually too late to save them.

Sorry to reply late....it's been a long weekend. I have about 50 chickens and never cull. I have mostly Easter Eggers, Marans, and SFs. (I'm a vegetarian so freezer camp is out too

) This little guy came out of the SF pen.....I have all the breeds separated unless there's a problem of some sort and someone needs to be moved out due to fighting or illness.
But I think things are finally establishing themselves with my "little buddy" He's finally getting some sharp saddle feathers, so you all are right, I ended up with 2 little roos as the unintended hatchlings this spring. I have both of the roosters in with my spunky little bantam, and no one else.
Elizmartin, Thank you for suggesting I check his weight. I feed fermented food, so

I'm able to be sure it's spread out in 3 separate areas. He weights a little more than his black buddy. The little banty is about 1/3 the size of either roo, so soon I'll have to remove her anyway. The 2 SF roos I raised a year or so ago were raised with all SFs so I didn't notice the differences like this time. I think this little guy will be prettier than both of them. Thanks again for all the help everyone.
