Now here's a first for me - I bought one of my chickens body armor

Unfortunately, Fling is my rooster's favorite. So now she wears this for free-ranging. She mostly stays with the younger group now where she is currently at the top of the pecking order. I think she was genuinely surprised the young ones defer to her. The SF in the younger group tends to hang near her, but Flash is much more confident and is not at the bottom of the pecking order in her group.

Do young favorelles tend to have larger combs than other chickens? I have 2 chicks (SF- suspected female based on coloring-4/5 weeks & SF/Marans-undecided 5/6 weeks) both have larger combs that in certain light look fairly pink.
I am new to chickens, so I am not 100% sure on what to expect.

Hi! I have 5 salmon Faverolle chicks from a tractor supply store. 3 are salmon colored and I can tell are pullets but the other 2 I got a week later and are much darker. I know when you buy salmon Faverolles from the tractor supply store it is common for the females to be darker then normal. The darker colors are throwing me off. I'm kind of leaning more towards rooster on the one in the first picture. What do you think are these 2 chicks pullets or cockerels? They are both about 4-5 weeks old.

Definitely has some odd coloring but this one also looks like a pullet - no comb development at all and cream colored chest feathers.

That is so good to hear! I can't have roosters where I live so I was a little worried. I've already rehomed 3 roosters and have 2 more possible rooster. I will be very happy if this one is a pullet. I'm not breeding her or anything so her coloring doesn't bother me. I think she's a cute little chick. Thank you!

New to salmons and love reading more about the breed. I have 3 3 week old being raised by my americauna hen. I got my birds off Craigslist at 3 days old and the girl I got them from could already tell the sex ( for the most part) I could tell around a week or so. Is that good breeding or typical? First pic is now second pic is about a week old

Has anyone had any problems with heat and their SFs? My 7 month old pullet has had issues with heat the last two days. Yesterday, she was so weak, the only thing she could hold up was her eyelids. Today when I checked on her she was holed up in a spot and when I picked her up and set her down, she was very wobbly. I've brought her in the house, hosed her down in the tub, and let her rest until she was able to move on her own power again. But I need to figure out how to prevent this from happening when I'm at work and unable to check on her.

Temps are up to and over 100 right now. All the chickens are in an open air pen, or like today, free ranging in the yard; most of the pen is shaded. I have waterers on either end of the pen, and I put some Save-A-Chick in the one where she tend to be near. The other hens are definitely hot, but not having the problems she is. Any other suggestions for helping her? - Thanks!
