Ha ha my girls decided instead of me picking them up and carrying them it was better for them to roost on me. I brought them into a Extra LG dog crate last night because it was cold and the tarp had blown off their coop. These birds are just to goofy.

Hello Keesmom and Henry,
I'm the new caretaker of the little splash Faverolles cockerel and to answer your question... yes, he has started crowing... loud and clear! From the first morning I had him, he made his presence known to the rest of the gang. Until then, my other rooster, a buff silkie, only crowed occasionally. And it was a weak, squeeky crow at that. Now the two boys are in competition. One crows, and the other tries to outdo him. They go back and forth like this, over and over. ScoobieRoo, the fav, has to sleep in the garage so he won't wake the neighbors too early. Last evening I was on the phone with my cousin and I was telling him about the new cockerel. My office is next to the garage so I went out and brought Scoobie in. (He'll sit very happily on my arm as long as I like.) So I held up the phone receiver and did my best impression of a rooster crow. Scoobie stretched his neck, looked me straight in the eyes, and crowed five times straight for my cousin on the phone. My cousin told me to be careful, my neighbors may kick me out of the subdivision.

Ha ha I promise you he never crowed here maybe he was afraid of the other little guy. Well I am glad I don't have three bird crowing. Mine have settled down so hopefully that is what will happen with yours. When I first got the Faverolle flock the LF rooster and Bantam competed all day every day and I was afraid the neighbors would freak out. Well now they don't compete as much. You will probably have to lock him up every night though I have to do that with both boys its actually fun it has made them much tamer. I think the Faverolles just love to sit one people all the hens and the rooster love to be picked up and perch on my arm. Hope his cutness outways his obnoxious crowing. Can't wait to here about when he meets the ladies he is probably excited not to live with the blue salmon tyrant anymore ha ha.

btw Henry, i think i can take some of those eggs when you have some ready. i have a banty buff brahma pullet who just started to show me she is willing to go broody anytime there is an egg in her box. i thought my cochin hen was going to do it but she lost interest in the ones i gave her after 1 day and never sat on them again. (good thing they were my own and not bought!)

Scoobie and I have a routine already. When I go out to close up the coop where all the other birds sleep, Scoobie is sitting on top of the trash can that I use to store the chicken feed. He watches me close up, then I come over and pick him up to bring him in. He does not protest at all... I think he likes sleeping in the relatively warm garage. I think you're right about the extra attention making the birds tamer. (He's sitting on my knee as I type this.) And yes, his cuteness does outweigh the extra trouble. As soon as I finish this post, he's going back in his cage for the night while I go do some Xmas shopping. I'll keep you posted on his progress and post some pics in the future as he fills out. Seeing him up close, one can truly appreciate all the subtle colors in his feathering. He is going to be a very attractive rooster when he has matured. His girlfriend is a looker as well, so I think we'll have some very cute chicks come Spring. I am anxious to see the colors of the offspring ScoobieRoo and Butterscotch produce.
