Faverolles Thread

I have 3. 2 are calm and friendly and don't mind if I pick them up. One is calm but runs from me. She was the one who used to jump on my head as a baby. Go figure.

HA! You copycat! Melissa shipped my eggs Monday so I will be watching for the mail lady's car today. I will be putting them in the bator Friday or Saturday, depending on when my Silkie eggs arrive. Faverolles are just popping up everywhere aren't they? I can hardly wait for little Fav chickies!

Don't give up. I have one that was really flighty like that but she is getting better. I make it a point to pick her up every evening when I visit them in the coop. She used to really make a fuss about it but she has begun to relax when she is in my lap now. She still leaves when I give her the opportunity but at least now she just calmly hops down instead of flapping away as if she fears for her life. My other two are very laid back. Emmett, my roo, will sit in my lap as long as I will let him.

Emmett is getting lots of exercise lately as it has dawned on him that roosters have certain perogatives. Crowing is one of them. I have heard him crow (or make a noise that was probably supposed to be a crow) a time or two in the last few months, but only rarely. However, in the last month he has figured out how to give a respectable crow and has decided to practice it regularly. He's really gotten very proud of himself. The other thing he has figured out is that he is a MAN . . . er, ROOSTER. Even though he has been breeding my two Faverolles and the two Cochin hens that he can catch, my 3 Brahma hens (the chicken police) have never had any respect for him. They would run up and give him a peck on the head or yank a tail feather out if he even looked at them and he would run from them. Lately though, they have been the ones doing the running. I will hear lots of squawking and when I look out the window I see one of the Brahma hens go running by. Then, in just a second or two, Emmett will come running by in hot pursuit. He has decided he likes big bossy women!

I think the Brahma ladies are rather confused by this role reversal. I have yet to see Emmett actually catch one of them but its only a matter of time I think. Chickens are so entertaining.

I have a little fav chick in the bator and hopefully more hatching anytime. I will set both a set of LF eggs from Mellisa and a set of bantam 18 eggs from Rose Isgrig. Then I will be setting 12+ from my flock after I candle the LF and Isgrig eggs. Then I will also trade some eggs to get new lines and then lter trade some chicks for another line. Then I will also be setting a batch of eggs from my new Comer cockeral over my hens.

I forgot to ask, did you lose the BLRWs eggs too?

Yep 4 due to hatch tonight and tommorow! I think one might be pipped. Hopefully I am going to get a trio or pair of them.

Yeah! If it were me hatching it would be all roos.

I did get 36 eggs from Hattrick today. All arrived in one piece! I'll still check for scrambling or floating air cells before setting them, but I hope there aren't many of those.

Mine did really well the problems I had were my own stupidity. I really hope I don't get to many boys that would be horrible.
