Faverolles Thread

YAY I will try and keep my promise to get pictures of the chicks. All four faverolles have the same amount of dark feathers. Its still to early to tell hopefully next week they will all be girls

Are they black or grey? I had some girls whose first wing feathers were grey.

They seem to be grey with salmon lines on the outside. I am really hopeing for girls or at least two boys and two girls.

Anything I hatch is almost guaranteed to be a roo.

Are you keeping the BLRW after all?

They are cold hearty, given all the snow and cold you've had.

Quite true I am considering keeping them if I get some girls. They are cold hardy aparently I need it we are due for 3' tommorow and Saturday!

My old BLRW roo has yet to show any signs of frostbite even after 6 winters in an unheated coop. This year has been extremely boring, but last year was frigid.

This next storm will miss us yet again. Watch it snow non-stop all March and April.

Hope not we have had lots of snow all winter here much more then usually but the favs seem to be doing alright.

Much less than usual snow here. My BLRWs always seem to do great, if you decide to keep them.

I can't decide on my breeding pens

never had this problem before. So as it stands the younger boy who seems to be having a few issues with fertility is in with two of the salmon hens. I will be doing a fertility test on them they are in a large cage in the shed and will be spending some time in the chicken tractor as well. Then there is the main flock which consists of the Blue salmon roo from Nikki in with the blue salmon pullet and 3 hattrick salmon pullets and one oxley salmon pullet. Everything will change up a bit when I confirm fertility on the new rooster hopefully he can handle the two salmon pullets and I get some pure salmons as they have been out of the pen with the blue salmon boy for three weeks now so they should be pure. I may have to trim some of his fluff though we will see he is still a young cockeral. Everyone is good tommorow morning I will be busy buckling down for the huge snow storm.

I'd like to know the answer to this question too as I will probably have some that need to go to freezer camp this spring.

I'm quoting this as I too would also really like to know this. So, if anybody has experience to share about the best age to process a faverolles roo... it would be most appreciated!
