Faverolles Thread

I was thinking about getting some of the Mille Fleur Leghorns that Sand Hill sells, but it would be harder to get back to Fav type from a Leghorn cross. I may try it, though.

Don't forget that Dick created the Buff Faverolles....years ago, he crossed with a Buff Orp x Salmon Fav to get that result. Took him alot of culling to go that far!

I had heard the blues and buffs were created by crossing with orps. Are there buff and blue LF faverolles in the US?

There may be a few blues left (made using orps). There was a guy who created large buffs but do to the economy, he got rid of all of them and now they are once again, extinct.

That sounds like a deal! I've asked Henk about it on another thread -- I suspect that the Salmons aren't the right color to start with (too much black in there).

So where would I find a good Mille Fleur Cochin rooster? (I do think it might be a good idea to use the Mille Fleur Leghorns, too, especially if we are putting Cochin in there -- I don't want to lose the egg-laying abiliity!)

Okay .. question. Do ya'lls fav roosters have a good crow??? LOL .. the reason I ask is because my Ameraucana roo has a FABULOUS crow .. and every time he crows my fav roo tries to crow. Now granted, they are young, so he may just be getting his voice (he was slow at everything else) but I bust out laughing every time he gets all big and proud and then out somes "Errrrr" .. and that's it!! Poor guy... and its QUIET compared to the Am.

Are fav roos just under acheiving crowers, or is he just working up to it??

I would guess working up to it...2 of my 3 fav roos crow (the underling in the breeding pen doesn't make a peep other than clucking at the girls for treats)...and boy DO THEY EVER CROW!!!

I was about 1/2 mile up the road one day when they started in, and I could hear them LOUD and CLEAR!!!

Hmmm...wondering about mixing the two mille fleur breeds first...plus then we (ahem, I mean YOU) could only use the offspring that had the lightest leg feathering...only problem I see with it is that they both have yellow legs...
Oh, and I've seen the mille fleur cochins both on here, and on Portland's CL.

So, using that calculator, I used a salmon roo over a mille fleur hen, took the golden columbian male offspring, bred them back to mille fleur hen, and finally got mille fleur patterning with various base colors...hmmm...sounds like a lot of work...up for it Kathleen??
