Faverolles Thread

I love my Salmon Fav roo's personality. He's very friendly but will definitely stand up for his hens. He tries to attack the cat whenever she walks by the pen,

He might occasionally come dancing up to me with a wing dropped but I just pick him up and cart him around for a minute and he gets very embarrassed and leaves as soon as I put him down. That usually puts an end to that for a week or two. I'm really not sure if he's "attacking" or "propositioning" me since he does that to the hens also.

He will also come and sit in my lap in the evenings sometimes and talk to me.

Thanks for the response!!

I just called and added 3 Salmon Faverolle males to my Ideal chick order thats due to ship March 17th. My girls are nice looking and they came from Ideal, so hopefully the boys will turn out ok also. If the boys don't end up looking like I want, I will find a BYC breeder to get some eggs from

Do you mind me asking where you got your roo from?

Well, I finally got pictures of my chicks. It's interesting -- the two chicks who are a week older are a different color than the others. And in the pictures it looks more like they have beards than it does in real life -- since I've only seen other Faverolles in pictures, maybe they are all like that?

Okay, now to see if I can load some pictures in here!

First is one of the two older chicks (they are both pretty much identical, so I only took pictures of one of them):

I'm trying to remember how old these babies are -- I think this one is four or five weeks old?

Looks like you might have 3 roos and one girl

they look like they have beards they will come in larger as they feather in.

So you think the top one, the older chick, is a boy? There are two of the younger pullets, so maybe I have three roos and two pullets. That makes a degree of sense, since the two older chicks will mock-attack me when I open the puppy crate they live in! I thought that was rather aggressive behavior if they were pullets!

As they get older, I'll post more pictures and those of you who know what you are doing can help me decide which cockerel to keep!

I need to order some eggs from Melissa -- just waiting for a couple of hens to go broody.
