I have a question for all of you that raise LF faverolles. How much coop/run space do you allow for each bird? I ask this because I am reading an issue of Practical Poultry magazine from January 2009 that has an article about faverolles in Great Britain. I know that the British Standard calls for much larger birds than is the norm in the States, but according to the article the British Faverolles Society recommends no less than a 30'x 30' run for six LF birds in addition to a "spacious" henhouse (no specific dimensions given). That is 150 square feet for each bird in just the run!

Have any of you found the LF faverolles to be restless and pick on each other when raised with less than 150 square feet per bird? What is the minimum you would recommend to keep them happy and healthy? I was thinking that maybe the 4 square ft. per bird in henhouse and 10 square ft. per bird in the run rule would be okay here, but maybe faverolles are different? Obviously the more space the better, but I was just wondering about this. If I put 4 LF faverolles in my current set-up, they would have about 40 square feet per bird.

Thanks,
Corey

I've got a coop of 4 x 7 and a run of 6 x 24 and they did fine. I had six LF Faverolles and 4 BF Faverolles at that time. 10 birds are fine. 15 is really pushing it. I never had any pecking issues with them or aggressiveness. It i snot typical of them.
