I loved that dutch belted I am so sorry she was beautiful! Ya now I wish I could keep them but with the diffrence in size I honestly don't think its safe and also to be able to sell boys and keep girls I would need to have all of them sent to auction or something and they are two sweet to go to auction. With what I have invested in the bantams I can't let them go.

Melissa, you may be right. I was looking at the chick in question just now and it's comb seems to have reddened up a bit overnight. ha Maybe he's just a little behind the others.

That could be the case I do see salmon coloring on its back. Can't wait to know 100% it would be a pretty cockerel wonder maybe its another splash salmon but a cockerel.

I have found that in a group of cockerels the most dominant will develop the upright posture of roos and their combs and (if they have them) wattles will develop and redden earlier...the less dominant ones will often keep the more crouching posture of a pullet and not color as early almost as if they are trying to fly under the radar. If the dominant roos are removed then others will rise up quickly... when I question one I take him out and usually it is almost overnight that he will show himself.

I didn't have the patience to wait, and so I covered myself with a blanket, and candled the eggs...no movement, no chirping, no tapping...

So I opened them...I have one that quit probably right about day 18, still really wet and lots of yolk, and 3 that had fully absorbed yolks, one was upside down, the other two were positioned correctly...

of the other 2, I didn't open 1, as I was pretty doubtful about it when it went into lockdown, and it hadn't changed at all, and the other 1, had black yucky fluid in it, so didn't break the membrane. Melissa, I'll be PMing you about more eggs!!

I have been following this thread for sometime....everyone really has some beautiful birds. I would love to have a few bantam Faverolles to add to my little flock someday.
