I am going to let her set on some lavender split to salmon eggs. I knew putting lots of fake eggs in the nests would pay off! I wish my BBS flock where here I would set some of the pure black eggs.

You WANT broodies? I can loan you a few! Including an Asil hen that hasn't even laid an egg this year. Started right off brooding in mid Feb. Hopefully she'll stop by October. I did finally manage to break up the Coronations though. Got an egg each today.
Any idea on when your blacks will be shipped? I'm still waiting to hear on my blues.

Nope not sure
now with the splashes being shipped it might be a while. I did ask her to ship next week because its getting HOT here! It was 90-95 for 3 days this week. I have only ever had one broody there is something in the air around her that keeps them laying and not broody. Dunk those hens in a cold bucket of water ha ha I have heard all types of things to break broodies never had to though luckly. I do know that she is very careful in her preparation of birds so that probably takes a ton of extra time she may be waiting for a day off from work or something I will let you know when I hear something.
Wow have I been missing some good stuff! I get busy w/ work for a few days and when I come back online... anyway. I have managed to track down some chicks and have a line on a few more sources. I am not new to the breeding game so I plan on getting my hands on as many birds as I can then culling like crazy. I have also gotten my plans for the chicken arks, a good friend of the family will be building them for us (hubby is so NOT a tool guy lol), hope to have at least 2 painted and ready to go by June 1st. The solar-powered, 4 foot tall, poultry electric net/fence has arrived and been installed to teach the local varmits to be wary... we also need to be wary as everyone in the family including the dog has been zapped at least once since it's ins.
Better than coffee if you need to be wide awake in a hurry, but I wouldn't recommend trying it.
PFmerlin welcome and thank you for sharing your chicken wisdom, I wish you and everyone else involved in the lavender project good luck. I would give it a shot myself but my space is limited to 4 pens of 5 birds... will be working on Salmon LF with some of Dicks birds (hopefully), as well as a few from other sources if I getlucky and find good ones. If you need an outcrossing in the future I might have something to help you out
Henry good luck with your new D'uccles roo, hope the color leakage is not an issue for you. Also good luck w/ your broody and other new birds, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
Cindy, thanks for all of your emails and support. Good luck with the sussex crosses... might want a super broody gal from you myself if you have one.
Cloverleaf I am so sorry about your loss! I hope the vet doesn't find anything that will cause problems for you. Good luck w/ the new birds... I hope you will get a roo sweet enough to be Rupert the second.
Pasofino good luck w/ those piggies... been there myself!

I just saw this... I have been swamped with a pig that farrowed 11 piglets and did not put on milk... baby pigs have to be fed every hour... you can not imagine unless you have done it...
If you want to hatch again send me postage and I'll send you eggs... what a tragedy! so sorry honey!

Thanks. Got a preliminary report via phone call last night, and it's looking like coccidiosis! UGH! After I sent them off, I got to thinking of that, and put everyone on Corid just in case. The Dr. is going to do some parisitology and histopathology to confirm...
