Faverolles Thread

I am sorry you lost your boy, though I am glad in a way it wasn't anything truly awful. Some things would have cost you your flock...

I will be getting that trio from Ron too! Fingers crossed there will be many good ones to choose from. Too bad we missed out on some good roos from Dick, by just 2 weeks. There were a couple he would have loved to see go to good homes.

Thanks. Got a preliminary report via phone call last night, and it's looking like coccidiosis! UGH! After I sent them off, I got to thinking of that, and put everyone on Corid just in case. The Dr. is going to do some parisitology and histopathology to confirm...

I usually feed unmedicated organic chick starter but this year the flies are horrible (the biting ones nailing me at milking every evening, ugh!) and I am thinking about starting a medicated feed with a coccidiostat. Sorry again about your loss.

I do feed medicated starter, but I have always switched to Flock Raiser by about 8 weeks...going to switch them back to starter until they are older though, and feed everyone else chick feed longer now. We had a really mild winter here, and that must be the difference...

I have my first chicks, including 2 faverolles that are 2 weeks old. Initially they looked pretty similar but now one has tail feathers and the other doesn't. Does that mean anything about sex? or type?
Thanks.

Henry, the Bantam Faverolles eggs you shipped have arrived. They are settling in an egg carton on the counter to be set in incubator later. Thank you for packing them so safely like you always do. How exciting! Thanks!

Hi,
I am new to chicken raising, as well as new to BYC. Our second mini flock, is a salmon faverolle trio, we call them Biff and his beauties, Martha and Bertha. They were about 1 year old when we got them and are consistently laying an egg apiece a day. That is until 10 days ago when Bertha went broody. She is sitting on 9 eggs and we are really looking forward to the hatching. (Actually 2 of the eggs were slipped under her by my DS and DD from the other mini flock, because they are hoping for another white-crested black polish). Wish us luck!
