Thanks Dick, I'm so glad you're here. I feel better calling him that if you're here and say it's ok. :lol Now, can we get Carol to join?
They are huge to my way of thinking. Will get a weight asap. They both came from Bridgette Riddle, who did very well at the Stockton show. the Winning Roo was one recently purchased from her, and I missed the end but heard that one of her hens was in the Champion row.
So maybe the Buffington bird goes back to the original Fractious

Thanks again, off to try to weigh a bird or two. I'm guessing 10-12#.....edited to add: so much for guessing; using the bathroom scale (my kitchen & shop scales won't hold a live bird) with us together then just me gives them 8-9 lbs each. Germain is a bit heavier so maybe he's the cock.

PS. These guys are both about a year old. I have to call her to see which one she said was still a cockerel. It was a bit hectic when they got here & I forgot.

Its so subjective when to call a bird your line or this person or that persons line. Its such a strange question and there is just no definitive answer everyone had to get there start or there first birds from someone. For example if you got Marans from Bev Davis and bred them for 6 years and they look nothing like the birds you started with are they your line or still Bev's? I love hearing about the history of the favs its such an interesting story. Thanks for the post Dick.

Henry, I haven't got a pic of a black hen next to one of the adult roos but here they are next to a young cockerel. He's only 3 months old yet he's just about the same size.

Edited to say the "little" boy in these pictures is 10 weeks old, not 12.

My new broody gals are on the payroll. Last night I put the Fav eggs I got from Dick B. under them- nearly got my hand pecked off by them for my troubles, but the eggs went under them w/ no problems and they are setting nicely. I gave each of them a soft pear to peck w/in reach of their nests yesterday, and they got kiwis today. Have only seen the BO off the nest yesterday am for around 5mins, the Cochin, has to my knowledge, not gotten off the nest. I was going to take pics, but I decided against it- the flash is sure to bother them and it's too dark to get a good shot w/out it. They will be done w/ day one of incubation at 7:45 tonight... just 20 more days to go and I will be rolling in Faverolles

Out of 24 eggs I had one clear, one didn't pip, 20 chicks out and 2 stragglers trying to hatch.

Do you know which pens they came from at Dicks? I have 5 from his cockerel pen and 7 from his pullet pen (he double breeds), are yours the same?
